Title: What would it take to get Nene or Okafur from the Wizards?
Post by: chambers on December 05, 2012, 06:29:31 AM
Would the Wizards take anything of ours for nene?
Would they take Avery+bass+sully+ multiple picks? Or throw Lee in there instead of Sully or Bradley?

Much less chance of getting Nene but with him the Wizards aren't making the playoffs and probably not bad enough to get the number 1 pick (once he starts playing).

So what do you think it would take to get either one?

Nene is more like a lottery level haul so Bradley and Sully probably would both need to be included PLUS the outgoing salary and picks.

It's possible we could take Okafur off their hands for not too much- I guess the problem is the salary going out to match Okafur coming in or Nene.

We talk about Gortat and Verajao but Nene would be unreal scoring presence and rebounding presence- whilst next to KG he'd be great on D.
Even Okafur on the boards and on defense next to KG would be a nice addition- Rondo could get him the ball like CP3 in New Orleans.

What do you think we'd need to give up to get either one?

I've wanted Okafur in green for some time.  He is paid quite a bit and as I've put in other threads to get a big we'd need to move a big just in pt alone.  Bass is a big who makes good money (sully rookie contract) so Bass and what package would washington take for Okafor who is a good player but not sure how durable.

I would be in for a Okafur trade. He would give the Cs exactly what they need. Interior D, Rebounding, shot blocking, is in the last year of his deal and has ties to the area having been a Uconn player.

The only way a trade works is Lee + Bass + filler (Melo?)

Last year this was the trade that brought Okafur to the Wizards

per espn
Quote
The Wizards will get Okafor and Hornets forward Trevor Ariza for Rashard Lewis and Washington's No. 46 pick in next week's draft.

The trade will add two defensive specialists to Washington's roster as the Wizards continue to try to change their culture around prized young guard John Wall. Okafor thus joins Nene to give Washington two veteran big men after the Brazilian was acquired at midseason from Denver in a deal that brought an end to JaVale McGee's stay in the nation's capital.

I think Lee and Bass will fit into what washington is trying to do and Melo becomes their center prospect on the bench.

For me this trade would be contingent on Okafur agreeing to sign a reasonable 2 year deal (around bass type money)

I don't think Boston has anything to offer that Washington would be interested in.

Washington should look to trade both Nene and Okafor though. Ariza too. And Vesely. And Jordan Crawford. And Chris Singleton. And dump Martell Webster.

That is seriously overpaying for Nene. He is good, but not at all star level and
not worth three very good contracts. Washington gave up Javale McGee and Ronny Turiaf to get him. While Denver might have been intrigued by McGee's potential, he was by that time considered a bonehead and a project.

JaVale McGee would be a very interesting trade target.

Avery, Sully, Bass, and multiple picks for Nene or Okafor? My oh my the Wizards would be hitting the jackpot.

Money wise Nene would be terrible for us. An injury prone guy who is going to 13 mil a year for the next 4 years. That would be a lot of money to invest in a question mark. When healthy I love his game, intensity, and how he plays on both sides of the floor. But it would eat up way to much cap space.

As for Okafor same thing but shorter contract. Still hes making 13.5 this year and 14.5 next year. I again, like Okafors game when healthy. But might take too much money.

This list made me giggle I'm not going to lie. I feel bad for Wall.

Don't feel bad for John Wall.  They should see if they can get rid of him, too.

I feel bad that Wall had to get hurt going into this season.  I think had he started the year on the court, things would look very different for this team and Wall himself.  But now, whenever he comes back, the season is probably unsalvagable.

My thoughts too. With Wall on the court their starting line and even top 7 or 8 is respectable. I thought the would be fighting for the 8th seed but ultimately fall short below 500 and in 10thish spot.

At this point, give Wall the most rest he can, tank the season, get him 100% healthy for next year and see what you can build upon. Tough year for the Wiz.

Seems like theyve been doing that for years.

Bass+Avery+picks for Nene I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. I'd like to keep either Sully or Avery but Nene is an All Star caliber big- better than Verajao, better than Gortat. Put him next to KG and we'd be nasty.

Okafur I wouldn't give up that much but Bass+Lee I'd seriously consider.

Okefor, Webster and Singleton for Green, Bass and Collins would get my attention.

Nene would be a good Wilcox up grade. Might fit in good with ROndo.

The problem we have is both guys are paid a ton, we'd need to combine multiple large contracts just to get one guy, which would kill our depth, which is what killed us last year, which is what we raved about this offseason, and we wouldn't have anymore

I'm very interested in Nene as are many of you, but I think a lot of you are underestimating Okafor's impact on defense.  He is an excellent defender that paired with KG at PF would turn around this entire team's defense back to the level we were playing at with Perkins.  And if we start Lee or Bradley at SG, the celtics would be back in the top 3 defensive teams in the NBA easily.

Okafor would be good for us, but he has the contract that i wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole

his deal ends next year. lines up with current 'window'. length of deal is far more important than size.
