Eastern Conference

Toronto Raptors (1) vs Washington Wizards (8 ) : 4-3
I think this series goes 7 games, Lowry and Derozan vs Wall and Beal will be a fun series, and Valacuinus vs Gortat will be fun

Boston Celtics (2) vs Milwaukee Bucks (7) : 4-2
Another fun one, Irving, Hayward, Theis, Smart are all out, time for Brown and Tatum to really step up, can Rozier, Horford and co step up and get the win? I'd like to think so, and Giannis and co will put up a hard fight, but i am going to go with Celtics 4-2, i honestly feel we're going to steal one in Milwaukee

Philadelphia Sixers (3) vs Miami Heat (6) : 4-2   (Embiid misses 1st 2 games)
Fultz is back, Simmons is ROTY and tearing it up, I think they take it against the Heat easy

Cleveland Cavaliers (4) vs Indiana Pacers (5) : 4-2
I think CLE will struggle a bit, I don't believe they can suddenly turn it up in the playoffs this year the way they did last year

Western Conference
Houston Rockets (1) vs Minnesota Timberwolves (8 ) : 4-0
I am happy for the Wolves, but I think the Rockets gets an easy sweep here

Golden State Warriors (2) vs San Antonio Spurs (7) : 4-2     (Curry comes back for game 7)
No Steph but also no Kawhi, I think Golden State still wins, struggle a bit, but i don't think this goes 7

Portland Trailblazers (3) vs New Orleans Pelicans (6) : 3-4   (Playoff Rondo)
This will be VERY fun, and I love playoff Rondo, I actually don't know who to choose, and there aren't upsets yet, but Dame and McCollum will play well in this series

Oklahoma City Thunder (4) vs Utah Jazz (5) : 3-4
I think Jazz takes this, they play more as a team than OKC does

I really hope this is not the case. 3 sweeps and two gentleman's sweeps? That would be a pretty crazy result for a season that was very competitive with many teams bunched together. Its not like there were several 37 win teams sneaking in. The only sweep I think has an ok chance is Warriors series.

I also had 3 sweeps and 2 gentlemen's sweeps though for the most part had different series having those.  For me, the matchups just weren't all that great.  Move a couple of teams around and I think things are a lot different, but I just don't see the 1st rounds as being very good this year.

The Thunder beat the Jazz pretty easily in 3 of the 4 games and the game the Jazz won was game 2 when the Thunder had a lot of chemistry issues.  I really don't think that series is going to be close.  The Thunder have way too much talent and a significant experience edge (though the Jazz have the better coach).  Portland and New Orleans should be a good series.  I'd be surprised if the Raptors struggled much at all with the Wizards.  Wall hasn't played much, Porter is currently injured, and frankly the Raptors are just a better team.  Unfortunately the C's and Bucks should be fairly competitive.  Despite winning the season series, I really can't see the Pacers challenging Cleveland at all, especially if the Cavs roll out their best lineup for the first time all season.  The Spurs, without Leonard, even without Curry for the Warriors should still be a pretty easy series for GS.  the Rockets are just better than the Wolves and I'm not sure how well Butler is going to hold up with him just coming back from injury.  A 100% healthy Butler and maybe it is a better closer series, but I don't think Butler is 100% and I'd pick Houston to win even if he was.

I think the Bucks, Wiz and Pacers would have been better matchups for the Sixers especially while Embiid is out.  The Heat have a top 10 defense and play at a slow pace.  I think Spoelstra will have them slow it down even more.    The Sixers will have some issues defending Whiteside until Embiid gets back.

Eastern Conference

Toronto Raptors (1) vs Washington Wizards (8} : Raptors in 7
Boston Celtics (2) vs Milwaukee Bucks (7) : Celtics in 7
Philadelphia Sixers (3) vs Miami Heat (6) : Heat in 6
Cleveland Cavaliers (4) vs Indiana Pacers (5) : Cavs in 4

Western Conference

Houston Rockets (1) vs Minnesota Timberwolves (8} : Rockets in 4
Golden State Warriors (2) vs San Antonio Spurs (7) : Warriors in 4
Portland Trailblazers (3) vs New Orleans Pelicans (6) : Trailblazers in 5
Oklahoma City Thunder (4) vs Utah Jazz (5) : Thunder in 5

I really hope this is not the case. 3 sweeps and two gentleman's sweeps? That would be a pretty crazy result for a season that was very competitive with many teams bunched together. Its not like there were several 37 win teams sneaking in. The only sweep I think has an ok chance is Warriors series.
I also had 3 sweeps and 2 gentlemen's sweeps though for the most part had different series having those.  For me, the matchups just weren't all that great.  Move a couple of teams around and I think things are a lot different, but I just don't see the 1st rounds as being very good this year.

I can't see Thunder vs Jazz, Portland vs Pelicans, Sixers Heat, Raps Wizards, Celtics Bucks being incredibly one sided. I would also be surprised if Cavs Pacers was not competitive, but that would I can at least believe.

Lebron might set a record for most 50 point games ever in playoffs .   He is super healthy , focused , and seems willing to play the post and rebound more than ever .  He is practically unstoppable inside IF that is where he really trying to score

He may average 40+ points a game from here on out ......they will, need that to advance most nights .

I don't have time for a full list this morning, but I don't think the Celts will get out of the first round.  Very interested to see what Philly brings to the table.

Regarding Philly, I am eager to see them too, I just don't respect them that much without Embiid. And he isn't cleared to play. Also, that mask might distract him IMO. He is grabbing boards and boxing out other centers after all.
He is their best defensive player (maybe even leagues DPOY), and their safe option offensively too.
The rest of the roster is OK, but without much NBA playoff experience (Simmons, Covington, Šarić, Fultz if he plays). Who is their best 1-1 scorer if Joel can't go?
I might be wrong, but I respect Miamis institutional knowledge more. Enough to favor them in this series if Embiid isn't 100%.

JJ Redick was 3rd on the Sixers in shots per game this year and was the 2nd leading scorer (behind Embiid).  I don't understand why people always leave him out of the equation when discussing the Sixers.  Now obviously he isn't a 1 on 1 scorer, but he has a ton of playoff experience, starts, and plays a huge role offensively.  Amir has been on the team all year and has 6 playoff seasons in his history and while not a key offensive player, he does play in the regular rotation.  Belinelli and Ilyasova have also taken a lot of shots since joining the team, and both have plenty of playoff experience (4 playoff seasons each and Belinelli has a title).

Now sure, Embiid and Simmons are their 2 best and most important players and they have 0 playoff experience, but this notion that Philly doesn't have playoff experience is just silly, especially when you compare them to Miami, who has Wade and almost no one else with any truly meaningful playoff experience (Whiteside and Dragic had the 10 games a couple of seasons ago, KO had the run with Boston last year, but that is about it except for some minor bench roles from players in a season here or there).

Wanted to see if we had any geniuses in our midst here. It looks like just about everyone was equally wrong. Nobody saw the Pelicans sweep coming. Most are surprised the Spurs and Timberwolves won a game and I don't think anyone had the Pacers 2 to 2.

We should update this after round one is complete for fun.

Great idea !

So far, I've overestimated the Spurs and Wolves' chances, and underestimated the Pacers and NOP, but otherwise I'm still on course for the remaining series' predictions. Hopefully both the Celtics and Wizards make it come true !

So far these two have been incredibly wrong, lol. Haven't got a series wrong so far! One I think I'm most likely to get wrong is Indy vs Cleveland, but that seems to mainly be due to some pretty awful officiating.

Some 2nd round matchups are still to be determined (including ours) but since GSW/NOP starts tonight and Houston/Utah tomorrow, it's time for another round of predictions !

Since I doubted Playoffs Rondo and the Pels in round 1, I'm going to get bold and predict :
GSW-NOP : 2-4
Houston-Utah : 4-2

What do you have for Toronto-Cleveland ? I have a hard time choosing a winner since I wouldn't be surprised to see Toronto choke (I have no faith in their supposed "change")... and at the same time the Cavs are really terrible.

I'll go with :

Toronto-Cleveland : 4-2

It appears in the Western Conference, the top two teams (#1 and #2) and the middle teams (#5 and #6) have advanced into the next round.

And in the Eastern Conference, the top 4 teams have advanced into the next round but with some fights. Another classic 1 vs 4, and 2 vs 3 showdown.

Same. Cleveland is bad but you CANNOT trust Toronto in the playoffs.

How dumb you have to be to end up with just Westbrook on your team while having Durant and Harden walk away?
It's 2018, I still can't figure out why keeping the least talented and the most selfish of the three. He is also the one that relies the most on its athleticism, read shorter prime/career.
OKC has a deserved great reputation for finding and developing talent, but once they become big players, OKC totally loses its special powers.

They didn’t let harden walk - they dealt him bc they didn’t want to pay the tax on 3 max deals.  Was a horrible deal for them though.  Don’t forget oladipo now too.  They will have lost harden Durant and oladipo for essentially nothing if George walks.

Here is what I had before the playoffs started.

Round 2
East
Raptors v. Cavs - 2-4
Celtics v. Sixers - 2-4

West
Rockets v. Thunder - 4-3
Warriors v. Pelicans - 4-1

Conference Finals
Sixers v. Cavs - 2-4
Rockets v. Warriors - 2-4

Finals
Warriors v. Cavs - 4-2

So obviously I need to adjust since I had the Thunder beating the Jazz.  I predict the Rockets beat the Jazz in 5.  I'm not changing any of the other series since I had the correct winners in the other 7 series.

If they had kept Harden, they would have won at least one title. Their ownership is also to blame for not being willing to trade a bit of luxury tax for a championship (or multiple championships)

The difference between what they offered Harden and his full max contract was 4.5 million dollars.  Not 4.5 million dollars a year, total over the 4 year life of the contract (Thunder offered 4 years 55.5 million, the full max which the Rockets gave him was 4 years, 60 million).  That is what their ownership threw away a chance at a title for.  Or maybe Harden threw away a chance at a title over 4.5 million dollars.  I guess it is all perspective.

Right.

Even Roberson was a massive steal. Just incredible analysis.

Perhaps Westbrook is the root of all evil, though according to even Oladipo himself Westbrook was the reason he even broke out in the first place.

Everyone, except Durant, has loved playing with Westbrook.

The problem in OKC has always been the coaching.  They just haven't had very good coaches there.
