I don't dispute anything Belichick does. 

If you're going to send the message to your defense that they're either too gassed or can't hold by going for the two yards in the first place, you really can't compound that message by ordering them to lay down.

It's a long season. Belichick gambled and lost.  The two teams will meet again in the playoffs and the result will be different.  The Pats pretty much dominated most of this game.

I actually agree with what Smerlas said the Pats should have done on defense after that 4th and 2 miss.  They should have brought the house on an all out blitz.  Either way one team is going to make a big play.  If it was the Pats defense then they would've had a chance to stop the Colts.  If the Colts scored a touchdown on that first play then Brady would have had plenty of time to drive the team into field goal range and win the game.

Yes, but then you have to blitz on every play.  The problem ith the blitz is what happens if you get to him?  He loses 7-8 yards.  Now you have 2nd and 18 on the 36, still not a bad position for the Colts, and you have burned 30 seconds off the clock.
