The NBA is feeling more and more like MLB during trade season.  But now, rather than reinforcing the troops, teams are making significant trades that may or may not work out chemistry-wise.  So we shall see.

If this goes through it looks like Memphis is gonna blow things up.

Good for the Memphis pick long-term at least.

This is an excellent move by the Raptors... They won't start Gasol they will bring him off the bench, and he will succeed in that role in this stage of his career. His playoff resume is also very nice excellent move by Toronto it will make them better in the post season for sure.

Come on now.  Plenty of data suggests we're better than all these East teams besides the Bucks before they made their trades.

-One of the 3 hottest teams in the NBA, won 10 of our last 11, only loss vs GS.
-3rd in the NBA in point differential at +6.9, ahead of 4th Toronto at +5.4.
-2nd in the East in home point differential behind the Bucks, top 3 overall.
-2nd in the East in road point differential behind the Bucks, top 4 overall.

According to a lot of these metrics, the Warriors, Bucks and Celtics are the 3 best teams thus far.  Let's see how much all these moves actually improve the teams before panic.
2023 Non-Active / Non-NBA75 Fantasy Draft, ChiBulls:

PG: Deron Williams 07-08 / M.R. Richardson 80-81 / J. Wall 16-17
SG: David Thompson 77-78 / Hersey Hawkins 96-97
SF: Tracy McGrady 02-03 / Tayshaun Prince 06-07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 91-92 / Blake Griffin 13-14
C: Bob Lanier 76-77 / Brad Daugherty 92-93 / M. Camby 06-07

Meh. I don’t think this helps them much. He’s really fallen off lately. TS% is around 50% The last few months. A healthy Valanciunas is a bigger problem for the Cs.

looking at the moves in a bubble all the east teams have improved.

And based on Hayward and Roziers level of play this season I do not see the celtics beating these teams...on paper so to speak.

Yeah they did improve, all I'm saying is let's just see by how much.  We seem to have Philly's number and I think Harris is likely to pay off more if Butler leaves than as their 4th guy.  But I went from almost sure we'd beat them to cautiously optimistic.

Toronto is tougher but Gasol doesn't exactly fit their long and athletic blueprint, and Valunciunas and Wright were both playing well when healthy.  I feel like the Gasol acquisition helps them more vs Philly and Embiid / their new bigs moreso than us.

I could certainly see this actually hurting Toronto as well lol JV is much more athletic and at times given the C’s problems. Gasol is the all around better player though even at 34.
