Oh, Higuain! Great defending to come in from wide position to block that header by Janmaat.

Excited to see Jordy Clasie come on. The "Dutch Xavi".

Holland certainly need another passer in that central midfield area to deal with this resolute Argentinian midfield. Not much room to operate.

Argentina's pressing in midfield and from the back is superb. Allowing Dutch no time on the ball.

Holland the more aggressive side in looking for the win. Making changes. Playing more attacking style. Trying to find a way to change game and get a goal.

Argentina the opposite. Argentina seem more willing to stick with original plan. Happy enough for Holland to attack more since it gives them more chance to counter attack. Trusting their defense to stay together and in Messi to provide magic.

I think Holland need another dribbler on the pitch. Maybe Depay. Finding it too hard to get on the ball in final third. I think Sneijder is struggling. He is the player I'd take off.

Attacking substitutions by Argentina. Aguero for Higuain. Palacio (forward) for Perez (hard working midfielder). Argentina going 4-2-4. Argentina have 4 forwards on the pitch now with Messi, Palacio, Lavezzi and Aguero. Lots of pace. Dribblers. Guys who can take on a defender and beat them one-on-one and create a chance out of nothing.

I think these subs will change the game.

Holland throwing a lot of players forward. I think Argentina's pacy forwards will catch the wing backs on the break and I don't think the CBs will do well in one-on-one situations. Vlaar has little pace. Vulnerable here Holland.

Kuyt's inability to hit a cross with his left foot has wasted several opportunities for Holland.

So no complaints about the Argentinian parked bus?

If there are, there should be ones 'bout the Holland bus aswell. Both teams are taking absolutely no chances and are just hoping individual brilliance can make something happen.

In the first half, I thought Holland struggled going forward but they changed their system and since then I think Holland have been quite attacking in 2nd half. Lacking a little in final third but it is not for lack of effort. Argentina done a great job of stymieing them.

I think Argentina have played the same as last game after Di Maria got injured. Defensive football.

But looking at their bench, it's hard to see them doing much else with Di Maria absent. Good forwards but after that it is all defenders and worker types in midfield. A lack of creative options. Gago is an option but I think he is only marginal upgrade on Biglia.

So I can't criticize their choices. A real lack of talent in central midfield for Argentinian National Team at this moment in time. They just do not have the players to play more open attacking football. Not without midfielders to organize and direct attacks.

Edit: I really wish Messi didn't play his entire career at Barca. I think if he came up in Argentina he would be more comfortable as a #10 and a better playmaker. More like Maradona. A player who can run a team. Rather than a forward who scores and can also pass. I think playing at Barca as wide forward or false 9 has hindered Messi in this.

I Don t agree... The Dutch look more willing to attack.  But I don t mind adding and the orange bus to the question....

@who I Don t want to criticize their plan. you do what you think is best to get the result you need.  But when we are talking about the lack of creativity of a team fielding Messi then we can t complain about other teams.

Regardless of who wins this match, it'll be a historic final.

Germany - Netherlands, one of international football's fiercest rivalries, and a remake of the 1974 final, or Germany - Argentina, always highly intense matches as well, and the third WC final between these two teams after '86 and '90.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.
