Jonathan Abrams’s new book, Boys Among Men, is out today. It's deservedly making a lot of noise, offering a comprehensive look at an era when high schoolers were able to make the jump straight to the NBA. Some—like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, and LeBron James—made it, and were able to carve out successful Hall of Fame–caliber careers. Others—like Lenny Cooke, Kwame Brown, Leon Smith, and Korleone Young—either didn’t make it at all, or left everyone wondering what they could have been had they gone to college. Boys... is an exploration of those stories and more, so we called up Abrams to talk about the book, the ’96 draft, and his thoughts on the NBA's current system.

Jonathan Abrams making the Podcast rounds about his new book that takes an inside look at the Prep to Pro generation started by KG. Definitely sounds like an interesting book.

This is basically the era I started watching basketball and its the era we're seeing the fruits of right now (KG and Kobe are about to retire, Lebron and Dwight are peaked). I'll probably pick it up. I used to like Abrams' stuff on Grantland.
