Per @wojespn on "NBA Countdown:" Celtics head coach, Brad Stevens was offered a 7 year, $70M contract to become the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers which he turned down.

Good Lord that's a lot of money for a coach.

That was my one best shot at getting him gone lol

yeah, it isn't so absurd that Brad would have at least thought about it.

but if I am Brad, I would ride it out here and see what the C's can do with the J's in their prime.

Man, when combining the money, the security, being at home, and not having to deal with NBA egos and agents...  I’d be tempted.
Recruiting sucks. It's the one thing every college coach hates to do. My buddies who are in college athletic management are constantly complaining to me about head coaches b!tching at him about recruiting trips.

My god, if I were Brad I would have been in there in a heartbeat. That is insane money and would set him up long-term in his home state.

I admire his loyalty, but I would have taken it

He's already making close to $7 million with a long term contract. Is the $3 million more important than giving up a pro coaching job with the most iconic team in all of basketball history? A job where you don't have to babysit a bunch of kids all the time?

I doubt it.

I feel like it could be. Far less time away from your family, more money, living in your home state, and less scrutiny from the national media. All sounds nice.

It is a major step down from the Celtics in prestige.   Boston Celtics > than Indiana Hoosiers in every way....

Believe me, head college coaches aren't fond of recruiting or taking care of kids. Once you get success on the pro level, few guys move back to the college level.

And you get guys that should only be college coaches and guys that should only be pro coaches and some that can do both. Stevens is one of those both guys, but being the head coach here has to be way more rewarding and less taxing in dealing with the players

He just got a contract extension from the Cs so he’s probably making at least $7 mil per. But that would have been a very cushy job for him back in his home state.

I don’t know why the hell you’d want to go back to the college game. Recruiting, dealing with school administration, kissing butt to boosters, etc.... Outside the egos, it just seems like the pro game has way better perks if you’re a coach.

I don’t think Stevens really wants to go back to college basketball coaching. I remember hearing him say how much he hated the unpaid players rules, like players being suspended if Brad gives them an extra sandwich ect. At a big program like Indiana, he’d have to know about recruiters given families money under the table and Stevens seems too morale of a guy to do things like that.

If Brad leaves the Celtics I think he’ll remain in the NBA coaching ranks.

They would have been a better example spending 70 million on education of children , and wasting all that on basketball .  That’s ridiculous.   I am glade they failed ,  colleges need to educate first .   That’s a lot college for kids that lack the money .

70million for Celtics is business , what you do after you grow up and know something.

The guy they hired will fail , he sucked in NBA , just like the last who was supposed to he their hero  and they ll fire him when the best kids go to Duke and Kentucky,  stupidity of waste will spiral up .

I'm sure Brad can get a lucrative offer to go and coach college bball anytime he wants to. He likely wants to give what he has been building here at least a few more years before he even considers such a decision.
