* Please note: I’m just curious, and if the Celtics are performing with their current core, I’d rather stick with our guys and show them loyalty than move them for an unknown.

This trade is based on the notion that Simmons hasn’t been moved by January 2022.

—————————

76ers: Smart, Schroder, Nesmith, Parker, Langford, 2 x 1st round picks.

Celtics: Simmons, Thybulle, Maxey

—————————

Celtics

Horford
Tatum
Brown
Richardson
Simmons

Prichard, Maxey, Williams III, Thybulle, Hernangomez, Williams, Kanter, Matthews, Fernando

76ers

Embiid
Harris
Nesmith
Green
Smart

Curry, Schroder, Parker, Drummond, Korkmaz, Milton, Langford.

—————————

IMO, what I’ve read about Simmons as a personality is that he’s a bit like Ray Allen, a loner or someone who isn’t a leader but also isn’t a negative locker room guy either. He and Embiid both sound like they lack leadership qualities and that has lead to this impass.

Simmons within Celtics system wouldn’t need to be a leader, just understand his defined role.

Yeah I was originally thinking that too but my rationale was he’s a Klutch guy so I’m sure both parties would have some animosity.

The 76ers would have Schroder & Curry who are a better match and more ready to win now. Perhaps in this scenario Maxey goes out to a third team.

If you look at Philly’s roster now till what they could get in this trade, I think it’s a solid return for a very distressed asset (Simmons) and it balances out their team nicely.

If we did do the deal.

Horford
Simmons
Tatum
Brown
Prichard

That team could really shoot it outside of the bricklayer. Do we want to take the ball away from Tatum and Brown though?

I wonder if liberty ballers site has this many  Simmons trades and talk threads?

It’s a very unique situation, thus noteworthy.

I think what’s lost to people is just how talented Simmons is and how he originally went from overrated to now underrated.

Last season Simmons was second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, 2 x All-Defensive First Team, steals leader (2020) and is a 3 x All-Star. When Embiid was out against the Jazz, Simmons put up 42 points and 12 assists against Golbert and Mitchell.

There is no way the Sixers would include Thybulle or Maxey in that trade, and frankly I'm not even sure they'd do it if it was just Simmons.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

He had a sports mental break down and has quit on his current team. That's not underrating it's being cautious.

It’s all relative to the offers they receive.

If the Trailblazers do not want to discuss a trade for Lillard or the Kings don’t make Fox available, this could be their best option.

Timberwolves won’t even include D’Angelo Russell in their trade offer.

C's game tonight showed the last thing they need to add is a guy that not only can't shoot but is afraid to.  Their passing was pretty good as was their defense.  Simmons could upgrade both but not enough to offset what he's really deficient in -- the skill they need most, shooting.

You’re most likely correct how the team is structured now.

I’d say in this hypothetical, Udoka would have to operate as a high uptempo team with Simmons as a Rondo type guard, plus having Horford start, would help stretch the floor and open the lane for either Tatum, Simmons or Brown.

I do believe a Horford, Tatum, Brown, Simmons core has the best chance at stopping Brooklyn’s, Durant, Harden, Irving.

Tatum and Brown played like 25 minutes.  Can't put much stock in a preseason game.
