Not a fan of our guys playing in this.  I'd rather they be resting or working in a gym on improving their game.

My thoughts exactly. I dislike seeing them play for anyone else, as it'll undoubtedly detract from their Celtics performance sooner or later.

Kemba, Tatum and now....

Boston’s Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown are on Team USA’s short list of potential replacement additions.

I was already thinking of attending in Australia or Shanghai (i'm from Boston)..now even more of a reason to...but would this wear out our C's?

Definitely be a good excuse to visit Australia...such a beautiful country.

I've seen a pretty steady history of guys dramatically improving their game after spending time on USA rosters.

I can't give you names off the top of my head (I think Demarcus Cousins was one) but I remember there were multiple cases of young guy who didn't have much of a name, then played for team USA, then broke out in a huge way in the following seasons.

I think that being around those elite coaches and spending so much time hanging with (and practicing against) all these stars really provides a positive situation for young player development.  I feel this could be really big for Tatum's career making that team.

For me personally, I like seeing them represent the USA. I'll cheer for Team USA as hard as I cheer for the Celtics. I still remember how I felt when I watched these guys take home Olympic gold in 1992:

Obviously things have gotten more competitive in the 27 years since but I never get tired of watching our basketball best give other countries a beat down (except in 2002 and 2004, let's just forget about those years)  ;D

You guys are overestimating the rest of the world lol. This USA team will still ROFLstomp the World Cup, and I'd argue that they'll mesh better with a clear hierarchy.
Love your confidence, but it's not based in reality.  The event has taken place 17 times since 1950.  USA won 5 times (1954, 1986, 1994, 2010 and 2014).  The current USA team obviously lacks superstars and MVPs.  I see no reason to not be concerned.

I think you guys were playing amateurs before the 90s, so imo those don't really count. But yeah the records don't look great even after the 90s, although you guys won 3 out of 7 lol. I still think that this current team is more than enough to cruise their way to a win though, I'm not seeing many strong foreign teams with a whole host of star talent to challenge them.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Per Shams:  Lillard has withdrawn for Team USA and Jaylen Brown and Julius Randle have been added.

Even then, 1990 and 1998 were also amateurs. The championships played with NBA pros were 1994, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014.

Losing in 2002 and 2006 had more to do with having too many mouths to feed on offense then anything else, imo, especially so in 2002. I get the appeal of throwing together 12 of the best stars out there, but as we saw with our own Celtic season, if there is no hierarchy, things can get chaotic.

I remember this team getting roflstomped on home soil in 2002...lost to Argentina, then Yugoslavia, then Spain to finish 6th. One of the more embarrassing Team USA episodes of the NBA players era. And our own Paul Pierce was a part of it  :-\

So no I don't underestimate anyone.

I vaguely recall rumors about chemistry or locker room problems with that team.
