O.J. Mayo will decline his player option and test free agency in the offseason.
Mayo said he's hopeful to sign a long-term deal in Dallas, but that's not certain. Mayo will be giving up a little over $4M to test free agency, but he should have no trouble commanding a multi-year deal at a higher annual average rate than that. It wouldn't surprise us to see the Phoenix Suns show legitimate interest.

No surprise, it was a Posey type deal that was setup to give him some security as he rolled his FA status to the next year.

Especially given how Rick Carlisle laid into him this past week.

Proved once again that he is ill-suited to be a starting two guard in the NBA.

Yeah, basically showed the same level of play that got him benched in Memphis. People got way to excited for him when he was on his hot streaky hitting 3s early in the year.

You know some GM who's hard up for some kind of FA signing is going to overlook all that and still offer him a starting gig next year.
Phoenix? Minnesota? Charlotte?

Probably, though will it be for "enough" money for Mayo? He got long term offers, but wasn't happy with the dollar amounts he was getting.

Could be a SMOTY soon. He's really good

We wanted him last year, too. OJ>Ray, remember?
-
should we sign him at free agency?
-
If he can get a contract more than the MLE, then the Celtics can't afford him. If he's not willing to come off the bench and insists on starting, he wouldn't fit on the team.
-
He's gonna get a good contract.

Chicago seems a good fit for him.
G - Derrick Rose
G - OJ Mayo
F - Luol Deng, Jimmy Butler
F - Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson
C - Joakim Noah

Yeah, lots of people saying Chicago is a good fit

Some GMs seem to think he can get $10-12m/year, which would put him well out of the range of teams like Boston or Chicago.

Guy proved he is a legit player in the first half of the season at Dallas. I dont think he was well used there the second half after dirk came back. Dude can flat out shoot and ball

Mayo has seemed to play much better when he is on less talented teams- Dallas prior to Dirk's return as you point out, and Memphis before they were any good. He seems to get lost in the shuffle when there are other talented players around. I think that's because he is probably really just a shooting specialist on a good team. When bad teams give him total control, he can appear to be a little bit more than he really is.

How so? Do you think Dirk caused him to stop shooting 50% from 3 point range? His abberant accuracy from deep was the only thing different about his game early on in Dallas.
