Just for kicks who do you think would win...

Lets say...

Starting unit

Baynes
Horford
Morris
Smart
Irving

vs

Bench Unit

Theis
Tatum
Hayward
Brown
Rozier

*The 6th-8th players on each unit are comparable

When did you move Tatum to the bench, Brad?

Based on those I would go with the lineup that has the best player, the only PF and the only center.

bench gets crushed

Your best player, best big man, & best defender all on the same side plus Morris?

Yeah, it's not that close.

Not sure why Baynes is listed with the starters here over Tatum - I guess to try to keep it interesting. Even so, I go with the starters.

Tatum sucks at the pf spot, Theis is a mediocre center, Hayward is inconsistent, and against the lineup that has produced fantastic numbers for the celtics

agreed.

not to hijack the thread, but perhaps another interesting topic would be whether either or both of the teams above would make the playoffs.

Fwiw, triboy, I think it would be close with the line-ups you chose. But, I don't see any chance Tatum goes to the bench while Morris starts in the real world.

Tatum, Brown, and Hayward are all fantastic and we all know how well Rozier does when he starts. Add in the ultimate team guy in Theis and I am surprised people are acting like it's such a slam dunk for team 1. Team 2 would get so many easy fast break opportunities even though they wouldn't be as 'grounded' as Team 1.

Yes but the 2nd unit has better versatility and length in the PF/SF/SG area of the lineup

What happens when Irving goes on a dryspell/gets defended hard by multiple capable defenders?

Right now it would be what you describe as the starting unit, but by the end of the year I think it could be a lot closer as I think Rozier, Brown, and Tatum are all going to continue to improve and I expect Hayward to look a lot more like Utah Hayward (and that of course assumes that Irving, Horford, and Smart are actually healthy which is far from a given).

Irving dryspell?

The same thing that happens in 90% of the games now....Morris goes to work.

The problem with your lineups are that your best player/scorer and your second most consistent scorer this season and your best bigmen are all on the same lineup. add to that your best defender and its all over.

If you wanted to be sneaky with lineups then:

Irving
Brown
Hayward
Theis
Baynes

Rozier
Smart
Tatum
Morris
Horford

That is a more interesting battle imo

You know Kyrie can actually defer & act like a facilitator too, right?
