I hope not.

Really? So what's your genius alternate plan? Please fill me in.

When was the last time that a team who's best player was 6' 3" won a championship?
Plus, he could not even make it through last season.
Hmm, maybe that multiple MVP winning guy over in Golden State?

Exactly. Plus, Chris can't even state his plan if Kyrie walks. We have no cap space regardless, so again Chris I ask you, what is your plan? Do you even have one or are you simply opposed to it to be unique?

Yeah, barring injury, you re-sign Kyrie even if you don’t plan on keeping him. Letting him walk for nothing would be terrible.

Is this someone on the forum?

I don't think so, but who knows.

I have been saying it all summer. If Ainge thought for a second that Kyrie would sign elsewhere, Danny would have traded Irving. Irving also gave up his trade kicker of $3 million to get traded here. You don't give up that amount of money if you plan to leave the team 2 years later.

He just announced it at the event tonight, I’m in the stands.

Great news. Takes away all the speculation. Keep in mind he says he's planning to, not that he will. But I would guess it would take a lot to change his mind (e.g. Boston having a dismal year, etc).

Don't forget this part though:

"Irving has also communicated with Boston ownership over past several weeks and verbally committed plans to stay long-term"

https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1047985260527534080

It looks like he has made a promise to the front office. Now, he wouldn't be the first player to break that type of promise, but it would be highly unlikely.

Exactly. In all honesty he would have been an idiot for not wanting to re-sign. The team is poised for success and the organization is well run. Why would you leave that to go to an iffy situation in NY or elsewhere?

The same one with zero Finals MVP’s?

He definitely wasn’t the best player the last two years. He was the previous two, one in which they blew a 3-1 lead and the other they won without Kyrie.

Just playing devils advocate, I think you can win with Kyrie as your best player. I think Steph is AN example, but honestly few title teams have a PG as their best player (sans 6’10” Magic Johnson).

So that means we can now pursue Anthony Davis once Kyrie signs his new contract (to end the Rose Rule applied to Kyrie)

You and I both know Iggy winning the Finals MVP was a joke. It was either Curry or LeBron.

I think we can win with Kyrie as our best player, but I also think with our overall talent level we don’t need as clear cut a best player as say, LeBron’s Cavs did. Tatum or Brown could easily be our best player in 2-3 years.

What all recent championship teams have featured is excellent guard play. Kyrie in Cleveland, Curry for the Warriors, Wade for the Heat, Parker for the Spurs, Kobe for the Lakers, Ray with us. All deadly scorers out of the back court. The Mavs were maybe an exception, but even Terry and Kidd were awesome in the playoffs. Hence I think keeping Kyrie, one of the best scoring guards in the world, is key to championship aspirations

Slow news day huh?  :)
We already knew this.
The situation we have here is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I think this post was made after Kyrie said at a Boston event “If you guys will have me I’m resigning” to the crowd (paraphrasing)
