Surprised there hasn't been 10 posts on here hoping the Celtics would take a flyer on him.

Oden played as a reserve with the Scarlet & Gray, a team of Ohio State alumni who competed in The Basketball Tournament in 2018.

It really sounds like he's got open availability right now.

My understanding is that the Celtics were considering Oden for a coaching position.  His playing days are over.

he has announced his retirement and not expressed any intent to come back. Has said his body just won't hold up for professional basketball.

He’s playing in the BIG3 league Season 3 which is in Week 2 right now. BIG3 is shown on CBS two days a week. Drafted this year (7th) after league finally expanded from 8 to 12 teams.

Last year, he entered the BIG3 Season 2 draft pool and wasn’t even drafted... yet guys like Marcus Banks and Ryan Gomes were drafted FWIW

big men that can't shoot or dribble have very little practical value in the Big 3 style of basketball.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Is this a serious thread?

i thought someone had accidently bumped a thread from long, long ago.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

From the way Parish wrote it, I seriously thought the same too.

No one has been posting about taking a flier on Greg Oden since like 2016...

With the BIG3, physicality is very important with defensive strategies including hand-checking allowed. This is really more like 90's basketball. Lots of physical contact and post play. A half-court game. Not the current NBA. Guys like Reggie Evans have thrived since the inaugural season. Big Baby had a great season last year. Perk was going to play but opted out, Big Al's playing. Big bodies like Craig Smith too. Oden's more valuable in the BIG3 format as opposed to the NBA IMO. This year, it seems like the small guards for BIG3 are getting phased out or bypassed in the draft.

Last year's top two players were Corey Maggette and David Hawkins, both big physical wings.
