Rumblings that he may want to be bought out/traded:

I think he can help us as a gunner off the bench.  Certainly a more controlled, cerebral player than Tony Allen.  Doesn't really help us defensively like Posey did.  But he can make shots and get to the foul line.

Thoughts on this fellas?

Stackhouse would be a decent fit for our bench, but only if he's bought out.  He makes $7 million a year, meaning we'd have to send out salaries of at least $5.5 million to makes salaries work under the 125% rule.  We don't really have the contract to send.

(Tony + Scal?  I don't see much incentive for either party.)

I seriously doubt they would trade him.  Although I'd like to send Scal and TA to them, the possibility of that seems remote.  But if he's bought out, I could see DA pursuing him.

  • Yup
Maybe Dallas will buy him out then buy him back for old time's sake.

Not really interested in Stack.
Yup

+ Davis to make it work with the BYC for TA.

I would be for it if McDyse was on the way.

Stack wouldn't bring anything more to the team than Ray Allen. TA brings defense off the bench and Stackhouse cant play D anything like TA, especially at this point in his career.

I do like Stackhouse as a player and I always have, but he just doesn't fit here.

So the general consensus seems to be that Tony Allen is more productive than Stack would be?  Yikes.  I must be really out of touch.  Because I am seeing absolutely nothing good from TA at all.  Not even good defense.

And his plus/minus this year is the worst of all the regular bench guys:

TA has more potential to be more productive.

It is just not out there on a night to night basis.

That sounds about right.  But I sure as hell would rather be throwing Stackhouse out there in a playoff game, than hoping that "good Tony" shows up.

Honestly though, I am not sure if Stackhouse would be significantly better than someone like Bonzi Wells (who is already a FA).  I would have no problem if they picked him up, but he definitely is not what he used to be.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Stack is a murderous competitor. I'd rather have Stack than Tony or any other FA out there, esp if there is an injury to one of the large 3.

Also it should be said that Stack is an absolute Pro who loves to play the game. Those are the type of guys that would flourish on our squad...

Only if the Mavs throw in Gerald to sweeten the deal  ;)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

  • You know my methods, Watson.
even if this fictitious deal would go through (highly unlikely), not only would we be getting a decent player hungry for a title in return, but his contract is pretty minimal as well following this season (i believe he has a $2 million option for next year).

i'd take him in a heartbeat, and then start grooming bill walker as tony's replacement for the future.

That's been the story of TA's entire career. Potential. When does it stop becoming potential and start becoming the fact that he just may not be that good?!

If he hadn't been injured I think he is a different story, but it is what it is.

I would LOVE Stack on this team. Pride said Stack wouldn't bring any more to the team than Ray Allen. WHAT?! Is that a problem or something?! Give me 12 Ray Allen's anytime. TA can't hold Ray's jock!
