Jason Williams (White Chocolate) - people clamour over his highlights and talk about how criminally underrated he was in his prime.  People have even said if he stayed on the Kings, they might have won a title! What almost never gets mentioned is that Rick Adelman use to bench him in the 4th quarter at times bc he couldnt stop turning the ball over.  The Kings didnt become a legit contendor until they got rid of Williams and brought in Mike Bibby (who also doesnt get enough credit for his time with the Kings)

Middle of the pack average starting PG.

Around the NBA / 90s/2000s players being overrated today....
« Last post by greg683x on Today at 04:28:54 PM »
so ill give a warning here that this is an old man rant....

What players from the 90's and 2000s are grossly overrated by todays generation?  Some even receive legendary status when I feel they were anything but.  Its like the opposite of when i was growing up, old people would tell us how great players were from previous generations and a lot of us just didnt get it.  Where as today, I feel like its the opposite, mainly because of highlight packages on youtube

but this has been driving me nuts, i dont participate in social media much in general, but i do read a lot of discussions that come up on feeds that I have, a lot of it is sports related, typically GOAT discussions and player rankings, and the way some players from the 90s/00s are viewed is wild to me.

anyway, so to answer my own questions, these players specifically, I think are grossly overrated by todays generation.

Allen Iverson - people today rank Iverson as a top 5 SG all time, and his run to the finals in 2001 and even being able to win one game against the lakers is super human because it was him and a bunch of scrubs on his team.  The truth, Iverson had the 6th man of the year, the defensive player of the year, and and the coach of the year, while playing in a historically weak Eastern Conference.  In this historic playoff run, he shot under 30% from the field for the entire playoffs.  Yes he did have moments of brilliance but they were cancelled out by absolutely dreadful shooting displays.  For me, AI will always be remembered as a me first player who was a volume scorer on teams that almost always underachieved, then had to retire bc he refused to come off the bench.

Kobe Bryant - I actually think Kobe is a top 10 player all time.  But hes viewed today as a top 3, which is bananas to me.  Kobe always benefitted from having the best big men in the sport on his team.  Today people say he beat the Big Three Boston celtics by himself in 2010, which is crazy.  The disrespect that Pau Gasol gets for his role on that team in criminal, and the HUGE role Andrew Bynum played is largely forgotten about, not to mention Lamar Odom.

anyways, end of rant.  Anyone else have a player from this era who gets legend status thats undeserved?  Curious what other people think, and Im sure some will have problems with my opinions, especially regarding Iverson, but its a good discussion!  and my daughter is watching Cars for the 800th time so it gives me something to do :)

BTW, players from the 90s/00s that I believe are UNDERrated are John Stockton, Charles Barkley, and David Robinson

James Harden wants new deal, wouldn’t touch him whatsoever

I know the Sixers were first round exits but they didn't make a mistake letting him go.

They didn’t really get anything useful for him and I think they would still be playing if he was in their team. So I actually think they did make a mistake. Especially when you consider how wide open rest of east became

I don't. But my point more so was not giving him a big-time extension when the time came for it. If the Clips give him it they'll regret it but I guess they don't have much of a choice with Kawhi locked in and George potentially leaving this offseason, possibly even to Philly lol (or Orlando)

I agree with you that if some team gives harden a high dollar extension it will be bad, but I also think there was a high opportunity cost here. Embid may have two or three more postseasons in him. In a very tight 6 game series I don’t know how someone could argue the upgrade from batum to harden wouldn’t have swung the series. Or maybe they win a few more games in regular season and are playing the Cavs or magic instead. Maybe harden would have refused to play or something but they basically punted on this year with that trade and worn Embid in his thirties now I don’t think that was wise.

Around the NBA / I hate Jimmy Butler - (video dissing Boston)
« Last post by tonydelk on Today at 04:23:35 PM »
I love hoops.  I respect players that don't play for the C's and how good they are.  There's always one though that you just hate.  No matter how good they are you just know that they are truly just Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.s.  Jimmy Butler is one of those guys for me.  The guy hasn't won anything but always seems to run his mouth.  He runs his mouth more then any player I've ever seen.   It doesn't surprise me when he plays for a team run by Pat Riley and has another dicwad like Haslam there as well.  I hate cHeat Culture.  I completely loathe that team and city.  I wish he and Rozier were healthy because beating them did not satisfy anything for me as a fan since they were not healthy.  Just wanted to say F Jimmy Suckets.

Oh man that's a tough loss for the Mavs:

Quote
Maxi Kleber has a third degree discoloration of the AC joint in his shoulder & will be sidelined indefinitely, likely for Dallas’ entire playoff run.

Massive loss for Dallas’ bench production.
Really tough loss..

Their only skilled offensive big man.

Oh man that's a tough loss for the Mavs even if he doesn't play as much, still a good bench guy:

Celtics Talk / Re: Porzingis injury updates (soleus strain)
« Last post by cman88 on Today at 03:41:31 PM »

Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis said he’s week to week with his soleus strain and that there’s no specific date he’s targeting for his return.

“It’s something, it’s not nothing, you know?” Porzingis told reporters Saturday. “It will take a little bit of time, for sure.”

He said this calf injury is stronger than the one he suffered during the regular season and will take a bit longer.

“It’s still pretty early,” Porzingis told reporters. “I think it will be clearer once I start doing more stuff.”

Porzingis said he rolled his ankle and may have been compensating for that when he injured his calf. He said the injury isn’t as bad as he initially thought, or as bad as it could have been, but he’s “not super close yet.”

He is, however, making strides and “expecting to recover at a historic rate.” He hopes to travel with the team this series.

“Each day, a lot of progress,” Porzingis told reporters. “It’s still very fresh, but making progress.”

Porzingis said he’s doing everything he can to return as quickly as possible, while also ensuring he listens to the medical staff and follows their guidelines.

He’s not on the floor yet, but he expects to start “doing stuff” very soon.
Good stuff.

So how long was he out with the calf injury in the regular season?

11 days and technically murray is playing on one right now.

Good to hear jimmy butler still is an idiot. Said if he played Boston would be at home with a loss. So tired of that nonsense.

Guy is so overrated.

They only have themselves to blame. Butler got hurt in the play-in game which Miami had to play two of because they "coasted" during the season and even Butler managed himself with rest days and stuff. They got what they deserved. Adios

Also I've been reading reports that the Heat apparently no longer view Butler as a long term option for them and are souring on giving him a max. They'll still get it done because they have no choice but Butler's knees are gonna continue to be an issue going forward, and I'm curious to see how they get a 3rd star. And no, Herro along isn't getting it, they need to add a bunch more players/picks. A lot more.
