That was just FL's guess, lineup hasn't been announced. There's still hope.

Right! At this point, I'm just guessing it may be Smart because he was the one to start the second half when Kyrie went out. For all I know, Face Mask Kyrie could start. Or, Rozier, or Larkin. Or maybe even Theis... Brad does think outside of the box (Maybe not that far outside the box though I hope)
sigh....
not frist. not second. not starter. not rotation. crap, not even frist page!!! :-\
but none the less, celtics will win win win win today!!!! it will be a close game without hayward or kyrie to help. the bench will have to come up big and someone will need to score a lot of points.
thanks flc for the great thread.....assuming you actually bother to read a post that is buried this deeply in the thread. :(
goooooooooooooooooooooooo celtics and WIN!!!!!!!! ;D
I'm interested to see how Brown, Tatum, and Morrison defend DeRozan. Bradley was just not tall enough.
ha, ha, ha...very cute post flc. and a tp for venturing into the nosebleed section. ;Dsigh....

http://twitter.com/celtics/status/929782871258288130I like that lineup a lot. Hopefully Rozier has one of those scary Terry games
No Kyrie today, but Al is back. Smart, Brown, Tatum, Al, and Baynes starting. That's a pretty tough defensive lineup, and having Al back should really help our offensive flow.
Toronto has a top-4 offensive efficiency, so we'll see just how sound our defense is today.

Still very early, but Derozan is having a lot of trouble getting loose from Jaylen.

I am. Came here to ask the same thing.
Is it just cutting from one play to the next randomly?
They're shooting lights out from 3 but fortunately they're turning the ball over. Our defense is really good. They'll start missing sooner or later.right. not sustainable for a game. and if they do, then hats off to them.
Smart is so good when he's not chucking.

Yes. Thought it was my connection but must be LP. Little annoying ya pay and have to deal with this
Refs have been pretty good so far. It's so much more enjoyable watching games with consistent refs rather than refs who show no consistency or call all kinds of ticky tack crap.
NBA League Pass has made this one unwatchable. Buffers then skips ahead constantly. It's driving me nuts.

And here comes the phantom calls.

Yep, I've tried my apple tv, xbox one, iphone mirroring, and my pc and it is the same on all devices. A marquee game on a lazy Sunday afternoon using a paid for service that is not working...total bummer.
Rozier's decision-making as the playmaker drives me nuts.
Two things:
Celtics length and quickness wreaks havoc on teams.
Tatum still has a bad habit that he showed at Duke: he receives the ball and then stops while he reads the defense. It allows the defense to set and wastes valuable seconds. He's a willing passer once he gets moving, so he's not a ball-stopper in the Melo sense, but it's something to watch as he develops.
This is horrible offense.they are getting good shots earlier on. but missed them. lately, not so much in getting open shots. CBS needs to draw up something else.
Brown might lead the league in missed dunks this year.
Brown might lead the league in missed dunks this year.Joel Embiid had 3 in the last 5 or so minutes of one game, I think he's in the lead :D
This is a really typical Marcus Smart game. Their guards are crushing ours. No real defense to speak of. Also he's doing nothing notable on offense. The front court is doing all the work.
But the game is within a point, so all he really needs to do is in the last minute get a critical steal, then rebound and hit a three and he's the hero. Give him a huge contract.
Rozier can do what he does for less money.

He might take of from wherever he wants, but someone must pull him aside and tell him that layups count for 2 as well.Brown might lead the league in missed dunks this year.
He takes off too far from the rim. He's a great athlete, but he can't stretch, lol.

right on smart's shot selection tonight. instead of chucking up poor 3s he is driving to the basket. now if he can learn to make layups, he is good to go! ;DThis is a really typical Marcus Smart game. Yeah, I actually liked the way Smart played. He didn't force his shots and trusted the offense. It seems like he needs to be more careful in the lane, and it definitely seems like the Celtics have to space the floor better, but he ran a good offense while he was in there.

I love this team!
Smart clearly has a direct line to this thread and saw EJA's smack talk on him before halftime. 6 points and 3-4 assists in the first 4 minutes of the half.
The Team that just wouldn't go away...
Imagine being taken down by Aron Baynes. It can't feel very good.
Sometimes it's almost like Smart gettin hot is a bad thing...
Smart/Horford pnp killing the raps
Words cannot describe how good Horford has been this season.
Just no playmaking or passing out on the floor with this unit. Hopefully Larkin coming in helps.

Jaylen brown you're not a ****ing ball handler!
The bench tonight has done nothing on offense barring a few Rozier/Morris plays.

Stupid play by Rozier.And again
Love the Theis pickup. Very good defender and fundamental rebounder. An asset on the court if you surround him with scorers.
Good Lord, does Rozier know that he doesn't have to freaking shoot it every time he touches the ball??
What a smart play by Smart. He and Al have such great chemistry.
You know I had some concerns about Tatum's ability to get to the basket with his "average" athleticism by NBA standards. He's just such a smooth player.Same here.
IN WHAT EFFING WORLD IS THAT A FOUL ON SMART?!
EDIT: Nice, they called it wrong first.
Dude, that is a flop!

Glad we got the win, it would have been outrageous to lose on that bogus offensive foul on Tatum. It's crazy how poised he looks for a rookie in crunch time, I feel like he is going to score every time he drives to the basket and gets by his defender while extending his long arms to the basket !
Great win without Kyrie, it would be nice to secure an easy one against Brooklyn and then put the streak on the line against the Warriors.
Let me get this straight. Lowry is making ridiculous shots. Therefore Marcus is playing great defense. That's a very interesting theory. Ignorant. You just simply have no idea what you're talking about, do you? Marcus and Brown have both played excellent defense, yet Lowry is hitting ridiculous shots from way downtown despite their good D. But that's somehow their fault, huh?

That's a non-sequitor. Lowry was hitting ridiculous shots. The fact that he had to take ridiculous shots is good team defense.
Smart ended the game with 14, 9, 5, and 2, with 2 TOs, and a +11 net rating.
Lowry ended the game with 19, 7, 2, and 1, with 3 TOs, and a -4 net rating.
You'd be hard-pressed to argue that Smart was "crushed."

So why should Smart be paid so much more than Rozier?
Rozier can do what Smart can do and for way less money. And without generally crippling the offense.
Btw......those stat lines. Why don't you add the shooting numbers so people can see that too?
just ask Marcuses teammates what they think about him, ask Brad, ask Tommy, ask anybody relevant in the organisation what they think about his game...We already know what Brad thinks. Brad thinks he's not worth the extension he was asking for.

Their backcourt of DeRozan, Lowry, and Powell were a combined:/argument
15-35 (43%) with 49 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, and 7 TOs
Smart, Brown, and Rozier were a combined:
17-40 (43%) with 48 points, 15 assists, 14 rebounds, 5 steals, 0 blocks, and 5 TOs.

You and I wouldn't disagree on that point (although I'm not as sold as you are).
Again, what I'm saying is that your bias against Smart is showing. He played well tonight against an All-star point guard and matched him at most turns. That's impressive.
Marcus Smart is this generations DJ
Great defense, good passing, great team player, offense fair until game is on the line
Intangibles
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Marcus had played in that era and DJ had played in this one the conversations are kinda reversed.Marcus Smart is this generations DJ
Great defense, good passing, great team player, offense fair until game is on the line

That is a great comp. Of course, Marcus has a long way to go to make this a career comp, but defensively he's already more intense and stronger, and offensively he has some of the traits that made DJ a great complimentary offensive player. DJ couldn't shoot the 3 (and therefore didn't), but he drove he ball well, had great BBIQ, and he was clutch. Marcus has shown evidence of a clutch gene, he has a decent handle and can see the court -- passes well if not sometimes a little out of control. Like DJ he is a good rebounder at guard and like DJ he is a "sort of" point guard. Neither are prototypical PGs -- more defensive minded combo guards with average (DJ) and below average (MS) shooting skills.
Larry Bird said DJ was the best player he played with. I don't think Marcus is destined for such praise by a legend, but I would bet that most guys he plays with are glad to hae him on the court with them -- though I also bet they cringe when the 3 flies.
Holy Cow!!!!!! 12
Brown with good D. Tatum keeps it alive and Smart snares it.

Smart forced Lowry into several difficult shots. That's good defense.
Lowry made several difficult shots. That's good shotmaking.
Both statements can be true. The fact that Lowry made some shots doesn't mean there's "no real defense to speak of." You've just decided that you don't like Smart, and you're going to an extreme to try to argue the point.
For the record, I'm not the biggest Smart fan on this board either. But you do have to look at the whole picture. You alertly point out all of the negatives while sticking your head in the sand when he does something well.

It was behind Tatum in his postgame interview. It wasn't written in marker on a whiteboard, it was printed by a printer pro. It had several items. The third was "Be TOUGH with the ball". I wish I had DVR so I could rewind and pause.

It was behind Tatum in his postgame interview. It wasn't written in marker on a whiteboard, it was printed by a printer pro. It had several items. The third was "Be TOUGH with the ball". I wish I had DVR so I could rewind and pause.
I remember people were discussing that maybe about 2-3 years ago when we first saw it. There's even a photo of the whole list.

I miss those. Kyrie sapped my ability to earn them. "Will Work For TPs".

Yeah, Thursday.
Kyrie will be back for that and we match up well with The GSW. Brooklyn is the trap game.
WE WILL
(1) Sprint to set OUR defense.
(2) Execute OUR defense with multiple efforts to completion.
(3) Be TOUGH with the ball.
(4) Play unselfishly with pace and space to get great shots.
(5) Dominate effort plays.
“Did Celtics fans mistake our trash play for them playing well or something? Is that why they're And1'ing the entire GT? Because that definitely wasn't the case, they were pretty well outplayed the entire game and barely escaped thanks to our own coaching ineptitude. Moose in full effect”
Raptors fans so naive they don’t realize a lot of their “trash play” was a result of our defense.
National TV, Warriors playing great and at full strength with the opportunity to kill the streak? Is this team ever going to lose again?
Yeah, Thursday.

GS will be a huge test to see what we have without GH as far as can we give them a run in the finals.
I like our chances against the warriors. I don’t think they are invincibleI do.

They have the 2 MVPs, the two greatest shooters in league history, and one of the 2 or three best defensive players in the league.
They have averaged 67 wins a season for the past 3 years and just had the greatest postseason ever, going 15-1 and making a mockery of the rest of the league.
This season, Tatum has a better TS% on the 3pt% leaderboard than Klay Thompson. Irving is a good match against curry. Curry isn’t the best defender. I also want to see smart and Irving stop curry and Durant should have fits from Tatum. I am interested in seeing what Baynes / Morris / Brown and maybe even Semi can do against draymond. They have no answer for Horford, I can see McGee having trouble keeping up with him.I like our chances against the warriors. I don’t think they are invincibleI do.

Yeah. Have fun paying Serge Ibaka $22 mil to average 13 and 5 for the next 3 years.“Did Celtics fans mistake our trash play for them playing well or something? Raptor fans are one of the saltiest fan base I've encountered. They were laughing at the Celtics last year when Danny refused to make a move at the trade deadline. Who got the last laugh now? ;D

To be fair, Vince Carter does not look his age on the court.
