Wouldn't you have to have Bird? Russel?

williams... easy choice

the fourth pick is the difficult one...

bird or red?

i go with red.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

As celtics fans, yes.

As a Rushmore designer, you are trying to get the most bang for your buck, and Red covers all the Celtics pretty well allowing for others to be picked.

I love the image of Red on Mt. Rushmore w/ a cigar in his mouth.

  • What a Pub Should Be
Ted Williams, Bobby Orr, Tom Brady, and Red Auerbach.

If we're doing strictly players then substitute Russell for Auerbach.

A much better (and tougher) argument would be a Sports Mount Rushmore of Boston Natives.

Ted Williams, Bobby Orr, Tom Brady, and Red Auerbach.

This was my exact 4 - split up the sports, take the icon of each.
God bless and good night!

If Manny hadn't flamed out, and had finished here, you'd have to consider it. Orr and Brady are easy picks for me, championships, arguably the best player at their position in history, and the face of the franchise at the peak of the franchise.

Celts - I'll go with Red. He was the franchise until Pitino, and was still a part of the rebirth.  (Influence on Pierce, brought Ainge back to hoops, etc.)

Red Sox - you have three options: someone before the curse, someone after the curse, or someone during the curse. Let's say you go with Cy Young pre (maybe there is a better pick, but I dunno), Teddy Ballgame during, the after is the hard call. Candidates should be franchise face and part of both championship. That pretty much leaves Manny or Ortiz. Given Manny's exit and his extended history in CLE (and whatever else.) And assuming Ortiz finishes here, plus the story of Theo finding him on the scrap heap, I'll go big Papi, but he's a bit too contemporary to have perspective.

I see the three players on the left, and Red looking in from the right, can someone photoshop that for me? :)

"Boston's Mount Rushmore"

The Pats haven't played in Boston in almost 40 years and Foxboro is closer to Providence than Boston.

Technicality?  Sure but to stick with the Patriots marketing scheme should they be allowed?  They very well could have changed the name back at any time.

Roy you get the final say as it's your question.

This is a no-brainer:

Teddy Ballgame
Big Bill  (per Johnny Most)
Bobby Orr
Larry Legend

Brady makes five.

Red never played for Boston.  He fits in the Exec category with Kraft and Walter Brown.  Current Red Sox ownership/mgmt needs to be there too.  They make us realize how deficient the Yawkey/Harrington teams were.

My media guys are Most, Gowdy, McDonough, and Kaese.

BTW, I can't speak to current radio/TV guys.  I left Boston in 1966.

Well, the Pats are still Boston's team, even if they don't play there.  So yeah, Pats players are eligible.
