Sign and trade ray allen for david lee to solve our center issue for reg season and playoffs a better rebounder and finisher and more athletic then perk . Withour midlevel exception from sheeds contract get morrow or reddick for og , slightly inferior to ray maybe ? but solve 2 positions .

What motivation do the Knicks or Ray Allen have to do this?

The Knicks can outright buy a player AND Allen probably doesn't want to be there.

The knicks maybe able to buy 2 players but every winning team could use a winning player like ray allen / no questions ? ! if they get lebron or if they dont ray allen is more then  a nice chip for the knicks . As for the celtics we need david lee much more ! perks injury number one ! garnetts age number 2 ! big babies lack of length number 3 ! he gives us many intangibles we lacked against howard , gasol , and bynum who'll well have to face again next year likely so to get to number 18. As for reddick hes a great younger replacement for allen . Best spot up shooter from the deep 3 in the nba . Pure shooter in mark price mold rondo could legitimely learn to shoot from being his peer in age . As well can you imagine the scenerio , lee rebounds runs the floor for rondo and get an inside pass for a dunk . a few plays later lee rebounds runs the floor again this time rondo fakes the defense in a pass to lee shovels it out to reddick deep for an open 3 nothing but net ! Danny please get them , it could be the difference of another champioship and competing for the next 5 years in rondos prime with like minded talent .

I Don't watch a ton of Knicks games but I'm pretty sure Lee would be a pretty bad replacement for Perk. He is an excellent rebounder and scorer but hes not a center, doesn't block shots and I feel like I've heard he plays matador defense. Plus when Perk gets back neither of them would be happy coming off the bench

David Lee is an excellent player, but if he is your starting center your team is going to be bad.  Unless of course Tim Duncan is listed as your starting power forward.
Lee has multiple nice skills, but protecting the rim is not one of them.

why would the knicks rather have ray allen then david lee?  doesn't make much sense.  The sign and trade rumors for Lee bring them back a younger player like monta ellis or tony parker, not a very old SG that can only shoot consistently every third or fourth game.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

If the Knicks sign Amare and LeBron they might be quite receptive to a Ray Allen for David Lee sign and trade.  However the point about center not being a natural position for Lee is valid.  Glen Davis and David Lee--both 6'6.75" without shoes, 6'9" with.

If the Knicks get Johnson or Wade they will have no interest in Ray Allen for Lee.  Unless we include Davis in another trade, we will have no interest in the trade.

Lee's contract is on the books from last year on the Knick's salary cap until they renounce him.  If they renounce him, they can't sign and trade him for more money than we could sign him for.  Thus, it doesn't make sense.  If they don't want David Lee, they should just renounce him and sign Ray.

Unless we're going to throw more in, it doesn't make any sense.  NY isn't eager to help out a division rival.
