I'd like to see the Celtics fill out the roster with veteran role players, assuming that there's no opportunity for "fireworks".  Let's see how the group responds with a hierarchy of Hayward, Tatum, and Brown as the primary scorers.  The supporting cast should consist of knockdown shooters and versatile defenders.  Hopefully Hayward can regain his Utah form, while Tatum and Brown can develop without the fear of stepping on the toes of other teammates.

More than anything, Tatum's development is crucial to the future direction of this franchise.

If Kyrie leaves and we don’t do sign and trade, we are right at salary  cap and cannot get anyone even close to his level without making a trade that would further deplete us.

It will be a big step backwards come playoff time and if rest of east top teams stay the same and one lesser teams adds players like Durant and Kyrie and who knows who else, we could drop to bottom few spots of seeding easily.

Maybe Rozier turns into last year Rozier and the drop off is not as severe but at end of games, who is going to be our alpha? Tatum still needs a few years and not sure Brown is ready either.

I hope Kyrie is signed long term. The alternative is going to be a few more years of mediocrity as our young one’s hopefully turn into alphas.

I'd like to keep Rozier if Kyrie leaves. I think Rozier will play better as a starter and continue to develop as an overall player. He will be an asset moving forward.

So this is not about What If we traded for Paul George?

What if we did traded a bunch of scraps for Paul George OR Jimmy Butler, and not sign Hayward to a max contract.

The Celtics would have been set.

Set to lose in 2nd round to Milwaukee or Toronto.

So basically we are moving Tatum and pieces for Ball and a bench level big? I have been disappointed in Tatum this year also, but man that's a bit of a stretch.

Rozier depends heavily on his RFA. I think he'll return on either the QO or a reasonable deal if Kyrie leaves. I don't see a big offer sheet coming his way.

If the market for Rozier is reasonable, I think Danny will probably re-sign him, if only to use him as a trade asset later.  Personally I'd be thrilled to see him go, but I can also see the strategic value in retaining him if his contract makes him easily tradeable.
