Dejounte Murray will be back on the block next summer after his partnership with Trae Young fails. Boston could make another run at him then. Maybe pick him up cheaper after a bad season.

So this means we can’t trade for Gallo now?

He might get bought out, he's only guaranteed 5 mill this year. Might be able to get him in FA? He'd be great off the bench.

Murray is supposed to be a good defender and passer which is what Hawks have wanted opposite Trae for 3 years. Even rumored to be one of the teams asking about Smart last year. This is a great move for them since they held onto Collins. Gave up picks and a 8th man bench player.

Don’t really see that fit for Atlanta next to Young. Granted, I don’t know too much about Murray, but what I do it does not seem like a great fit.

I am guessing they are trying to free up Trae to be more of a scorer like Steph is rather than asking Trae to be more of a playmaker like Nash.

I am guessing they see Dejounte as their version of Draymond in this re-imagined version of GSW. But Dejounte is far more ball-happy than Draymond is.

I just said the Cs should go after him if he gets bought out. Not a great Defender, but we need some bench scoring BAD!

Never really thought the fit was there for us with Murray tbh.  He’s a good player but much of his value would have been lost as a third or fourth option.  I think he needs a larger on-ball role than we have available for him.

Felt like Gallo dropped off quite a bit last year. Age catching up to him. No longer as quick or as able to take his defender off the dribble. Doesn't get to the FT line like he used to. More vulnerable on D than he used to be.

Gallo of 2-3 years ago would've been great for this team. Not sure Gallo of today would contribute that much.

Hate it for the Hawks. Trae is at his best when spamming the spread PnR. In order to maximize his effectiveness, you gotta surround him with 3+D (s)wings and a PnR big (=Capela). Murray is a below average shooter, hence he cannot space the floor in the spread PnR. More importantly, he's a ball dominant guard. Both Murray and Trae want the ball in their hands. Terrible fit next to Trae on the offensive side of the ball.

Said something similar in another thread. The fit seems strange given both All-Stars need the ball so much to reach their peak effectiveness. ATL clearly wanted a great defender next to Trae that would take the pressure off Young on defense. And the also wanted someone who could score. But I don't think Murray is the right fit. I think a Jaylen/Klay type guy would have been a better fit

Spurs are clearly tanking for Wembanyama, who has been playing for ASVEL, a French team owned by Tony Parker.
