I became a Celtics fan during the playoffs in 1974. And those playoffs were frustrating as all get-out. The Buffalo Braves were not a good team. Yet we went tit-for-tat with them in the first round, trading wins until we closed them out on their floor in game 6. The Finals was one of the better ones in history. 1-0 Cs. 1-1. 2-1 Cs. 2-2. 3-2 Cs. 3-3. It wasn’t until we won game 7 in Milwaukee that championship number 12 was our’s. 1976 was more of the same. One close series after another until the Cs again hoisted a banner at the end.

The point here is that no one knows what is in store for us over the next month. But, as one writer said this morning, one reason the Cs are so frustrating in the playoffs is because they were so dominant during the regular season. The Celtics would regularly win going away, and each game typically included five or six plays that got you out of your seat …while watching at home.

As much as we’d like those days to continue, it appears the closest we will now get are a few stolen moments, Pierce’s dunk, Big Baby’s Big Contributions, and Rondo’s three pointers. That’s ok, though. This isn’t the Olympics. The Celtics don’t earn points for artistic merit. The 1988 Lakers won three straight series 4-3 on their way to a title. The 2000 Lakers probably shouldn’t have gotten past Sacramento.

I disagree with doc.

The NBA playoffs are like the NCAA tournament in one significant regard.

Survive and move on.
