If the balls bounce right, this team is going to be in position to finally get a legitimate center next season. Why would Ainge make this move, when it would cost the team that opportunity, since Cleveland would almost certainly be demanding both that Brooklyn pick and the Lakers pick?
We don't have to included the Nets and the Lakers/Kings pick. We just have to place an offer that they can look at.
The longer Kyrie stays in Cleveland, the tighter the tension gets. If it keeps going, eventually the Cavs would have to settle for what is the best they could get just to get him out of that locker room, as eventually he could be hated by his teammates, and vice versa. It would be a toxic environment for him and the other, and that is when Cleveland would just be willing to accept a deal, regardless if it's fair value or not. We just have to have an offer on the table if/when it happens.
If we are considering getting Kyrie, just field an offer that is decent enough that the Cavs would get some value, but not too rich that they'd get equal or more than Kyrie's worth. Nothing that involves the premium picks and Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. If the Cavs don't want it, no harm done. If they did, then we get Kyrie.
