Besides the obvious answer (Tommy and Mike) I like JVG.

"Say Queensbridge now, Ron!"

OMFG!  I don't think I've ever laughed louder than when Van Gundy said that....  love JVG.  The dude really OUGHT to be coaching somewhere.

Momma and Papa Potato sent little Priscilla Potato off to college when she was 18.  It was a bittersweet day.  They had doted over her since she was a little spud and were sad to see her leave home, but they were oh so proud of her too.  She was the first potato from her her family to ever go off to college.

After her first semester she came home for Christmas. Her parents and family were overjoyed to see her, and could not wait to hear stories of her life away from home.

After she had exchanged hugs and kisses with everyone, she pronounced proudly, "Everyone.  I have some wonderful news.  I met a fantastic potato this fall and we're engaged to be married!"

Her Mom and Dad were a little surprised but delighted nonetheless. Dad said, d"Why that's fantastic dear!  Is he an Idaho Potato?  Great potatoes come from Idaho!"

"No Dad.  He's not from Idaho."

"Oh, well he is he a Maine potato?  There are some great potatoes from Maine."

"No Dad.  He's not from Maine either.  He's actually from South Dakota."

"Oh, well I guess that's OK.  South Dakota has some good potatoes too."

"Well, yes they do Dad.  Ummm...this one's named Tom Brokaw."

The whole family gasped in despair.

"TOM BROKAW!  Say it isn't so. HE's just a COMMON-TATER!"

There are several depending on which angle were going for.

Humor? Sound of Voice? Insight? Nostalgia?

Outside of Mike and Tommy

I always enjoyed Harry Carrey tell us about a trip to the grocery store for 3 hours while baseball was merely an afterthought. I'm a Cardinals fan but because of WGN I didn't mind watching the Cubs when nothing else was on.

As a Cardinals fan there is always the Buck family and Mike Shannon. (If I remember correctly his World Series ring was ate by a goat once and found after it had passed. I could be wrong but seems like I heard that once.)

I like the sound of Joe Morgan's voice.

I also like Steve Snapper Jones for the same reasons.

I grew up with the Marv Albert - Mike Fratello team so I'm partial there for nostalgia. (Met Mike Fratello once also)

There is also some feeling of nostalgia for Doug Collins, Bob Neal and Hubie Brown for the TNT crew back in the day but overall I don't like Hubie Brown that much. Always seemed like -- well I don't know really-- acted like he knew more than he really did. I don't know, I know he's smart and been around just never caught on with me.

Bill Walton for creativity and humor.

"The shots are falling like the leaves of a deciduous forest."
"From Bill Russell to Mark Blount a seamless transition."

I do like Jeff Van Gundy. He should be paired with people far better than Mike Breen and Mark Jackson.

Despise Vern Lundquist who has a transparent unconditional bromance for Tim Tebow.

I'll think of more. This is a fun topic.

JVG in basketball, Ron Darling in baseball.

I really like Frazier among local broadcast guys.

I can't stand Vitale. Way too hyper.

My favorite has to be Mike. Watching the Celtics without him on the play-by-play would simply not be the same. I especially love his "GOT IT!" call, his little leprechaun laugh and the fact that he's a real Celtics fan from Dorchester.

Nationally, my favorite commentator is Jay Bilas. His knowledge of the game and college teams is off the charts. NBA-wise, it's gotta be Hubie Brown for similar reasons.

Favorite studio broadcaster - Kenny Smith. Love his flavor, funny, knowledgeable and does a good job of mixing serious basketball discussion and goofing around. The TNT crew will never be matched, and I say that because I anticipate Kenny and/or Charles moving onto something different within the next 2-3 years. Especially Kenny. He will find himself a part of some organization at some point.

Don't forget Woody Allen does it again. I still have not gotten over that.

My faves are Mike and Tommy (and Cooz sniff sniff) by a country mile. Then I love Frazier. I'm always trying to use the rhyming thing spontaneously but alas I don't have the gift. I like Hubie a lot too but he sorely tests my patience with his refusal to get the pronunciations of player names right Rayjon, Reyzul, Scalabrin, Tieshawn.

Marc Jackson I'm ashamed to say cracks me up often. He's just so over the top and somehow manages to use every single cliche/pun possible after something happens. Eg. "You want the truth? Well you can't handle the truth. AND the truth hurts." Really either of those would have sufficed.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.
