RIP Coach Thompson.  Pretty much a legend.  I didn't realize he won two rings with the Celtics backing up Bill Russell.  Lots of guys chiming in on how much he helped them in their lives.  Condolences to his family and friends.

I grew up during the heyday of Big East basketball and he was a true icon and star during that time. Even after they slipped from truly elite his teams played with a toughness and tenacity that you know they got from their coach. RIP Coach Thompson.

Another big loss for the basketball community. I remember watching Thompson prowling and growling on the sidelines during the Mutombo-Mourning years when I was growing up.
"There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'"

"You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body."

Legendary career. 27 years at the helm of Georgetown, highlighted by winning an NCAA championship (and taking a stand against a drug lord!).

You can see how well he was thought of by the response to his death. What a legacy. RIP

Total legend. Up there with John Wooden when you talk about the greatest college coaches.
