yesterday...
@Marc_DAmico
If Brad Stevens’ intel was accurate, both Kyrie Irving AND Gordon Hayward will be playing 5-on-5 basketball with no limitations within about 2-3 weeks.
also yesterday...

So it looks like he's now working with Hanlen and starting to rev things up.

He looks great! Can’t wait to see him play again. We’ll need his skills more than ever with how these teams are stacking up
-
I'm glad he got a haircut. He looked really goofy last year.

Gordon Hayward gives an update on his recovery and expectations for the upcoming season
https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-celtics/2018/07/19/gordon-hayward-injury-recovery-update
The forward said he still has yet to play 5-on-5 basketball, but is hoping to do so in August. As far as what he can do? Recent developments include being able to dunk.
“I dunked the basketball for the first time off my left foot — without pain — last week,” he said. “That felt awesome. I went into it very soft and gingerly, and after I did it, I was like, ‘OK, that didn’t hurt it all.’ I did it again, and it felt good.”
Hayward said he’s also able to “do a full sprint linearly,” meaning he can sprint in a straight line and then come to a stop. On the basketball court, he said he’s able to do some lateral movements, like cutting left and right. Any activity without pain is “always exciting,” he said.

Great news!
-
Yeah, he fully Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ed that leg hey. Slowly slowly Gordie
-
Can't wait to see his shooting and playmaking next to our other beasts come October
-
This Celtics team could become something special if, they stay healthy and, after they have had a half-season or so for the injured to get their bounce back and after everyone has time to get on the same page. This could be the start of the decade that sees the Celtics finally reclaim their rightful spot as the NBA's preeminent franchise, one banner at a time.

Me too! Hayward's impact on our offense should be significant even if he's only 85% of his normal self for the first few months. The Celtics lacked a P&R scorer/facilitator who could play alongside Kyrie.
I took a quick look at P&R efficiency stats from 2016-2017 for Hayward and Kyrie. The improvement by Irving last season was HUGE. Hopefully we see similar results from Hayward.
Hayward
2016-17 - .99 PPP (good for 87th percentile in the NBA.)
Irving
2016-2017 - .96 PPP (good for 83rd percentile in the NBA)
2017-2018 - 1.10 PPP (just behind Curry for best in the NBA)
-
This is a special team. I’m looking forward to this season!
-
Love it!

TP for the info. Having another guy who can create his own shot with the shot clock winding down will be great. Hopefully, Smart will take fewer of those shots.

Here are some videos with Blakely.
-
This is great to hear! Hopefully he'll be at full steam not too far after the start of the regular season.
If we stay healthy our starting lineup is going to be insane.
Assuming it's Irving, Brown, Tatum, Hayward and Horford.
You get five guys who shoot an elite 3pt %, can create their own shots, can take the ball to the hole and have to be guarded no matter where they are on the floor.
I expect to see a LOT of open shots for us with that lineup terrorizing defenses. I won't be surprised to see three point shooting the the low 40% range for the whole lineup combined.
Should be an epic season. Let's hopefully stay healthy.
So happy Baynes and Smart are back with us too.
-
Can't wait to see him, Kyrie, and Tatum shut down Klay Thompson, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant in the finals.

Great to see!!
-
Hayward is a great basketball player, it will be a huge add on to a team that made the Eastern Conference finals.
-
The NBA will soon remember how good a basketball player Gordon Hayward is.
Looking forward to his return and his meshing with Kyrie, Tatum, JB and Big Al, Smart and the rest of the team.
He's going to fill so many holes.
-
At least 18 in a row from the top of the key. :D
-
He is looking good.
I still think he will be on some type of minutes restriction to start with. Probably he plays 6 or 8 minutes after starting then sits for Smart or Baynes. Then plays the last 6 to 8 of the second quarter while Tatum or Brown sits.
I dont think we take any chances with long consecutive minutes until we see how he holds up. Playing with pain isnt necessary with our depth when we can ease him into the rotation slowly.
26 mpg to start and work up to 32 by January if he feels good.
-
He has a long way to go.
-
I can’t fathom how a person could do that to an ankle/leg and the bones/tendons heal to a place where everything is as strong as it once was. Just seems impossible but I guess the human body is extraordinary. I hope GHs body is super-human. I look forward to seeing him thrust off that ankle naturally and without discomfort.

Great to see!!
Amazing how wet his jumper was at the end there.
-
He has a long way to go.
How can possibly reach that conclusion from the video? You don't even know his current limitations and is set to start playing with no restrictions in a week or so.

Perhaps he didn't need the video to reach that conclusion. Perhaps he is making that statement knowing he hasn't yet played 5-on-5. On that basis, it's reasonable.

So far so good though, he looks fantastic in that video, especially his foot movement.

Yeah, but he'll be playing 5-on-5 in a week or so, so that hardly constitutes it him being a long way off. If anything, the video, along with the given timeline, demonstrates how close he is.

He's going to fill so many holes.
Nothing will fill the hole in his heart, though. Maybe if they have a 4th kid
-
he don't look crippled to me
get his long wind stamina back. he ll be ok
-
18 is a theme for the 3s as in championship 18
-
Key will be for Gordon to feel comfortable in traffic, not thinking about his ankle. That’s why 5/5 will be huge.
-
All-Star Gordon Hayward is an upcoming shoe free agent that will receive major interest from several brands.
New Balance is expected to be a wild card. The Celtics’ new 70,000 sq foot Auerbach Center practice facility is actually located at the New Balance HQ in Boston.

I don't know how Brad Stevens will be able to keep a shet eating grin off his face for the first month of the season. He will start to resemble the Joker, if he's not careful, with all the goodies he got this year. Just roll the ball out there coach. No need for set plays. Let them run and gun.

That's what makes Brad great. He'll have no problem focusing on what the team needs to do to improve.
-
I don't have high expectations for the first half of the season, maybe even until the playoffs.
-
I hope Coach Stevens (and Danny) enjoys this roster.
There have been SO MANY changes...players leaving, coming, etc....
With Hayward (and Kyrie) back in the fold, we are READY.

Got me thinking.... Not really so many changes -- opening day roster last year included Hayward, Irving, Brown, Tatum, Morris, Horford, Smart, Rozier, Theis, Semi, Yabu -- all who will be here on Day one this year.
Nonetheless -- you are correct, it will be a whole new story from the end of last year with healthy GH, KI and Theis. And with JB, JT and TR continuing to grow as players.

Morris wasn’t in opening day roster last year was he?

Traded for Avery before the season.

Yup. He was on the roster, but hurt and had the trial with Markieff, so he wasn't around much

I should have elaborated and included the last several years of roster changes for Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge - from the time Brad took over until now.
We FINALLY have a roster now that can compete in June of next year and beyond.

Yes -- huge change from just 2 years ago. Can't wait!!

I am so ready for this season. Bring Hayward along slowly if need be, get us all healthy and clicking before the all star break and lets see how far we can go.
-
I'd love for him to come back like Superman too, but I think this is going to take more time and preparation than some of you think.
Dealing with both the mental and physical side of things. I'm thinking of him hopefully being close to 100% by the all-star break. The Celtics should take this slowly minute wise.

As long has he plays out of his world in the NBA finals. Is all I hope for in Him.

I can't see anyone getting more then 30 minutes a game out of the gate. With the depth they can start Kyrie and Hayward off slow and give TRozier more run. I can see Kyrie and Hayward at 25 for the first few weeks up to a month. Come playoff time this will be a scary good team.
