There are more expendable players than Davis, IMO ... don't like it.

Agreed.

Why would a lot of teams be overpaying?

The teams who are under the cap will be going for the big names. They will not have an MLE, so after the big names, they will have limited money available. Even Miami seems to want to use their cap space to sign a top guy (while keeping Wade), which means not so much money to throw around to fill roster.

The top teams, like us, will only have the MLE.

If teams under the cap don't get the top free agents, there is a chance they will panic and overpay on the second tier on free agents.  What if the Knicks can't land a max contract type of guy and decide to overpay by offering a few $8-10 million/year contracts to Ray Allen and Udonis Haslem or other players of similar value?

Oh, wait, were you expecting all NBA GMs to do the smart thing?

Agreed.  Davis is a young developing big, he can only get better.

I think we need to be looking at younger guys.

We could do a lot worse than Haslem.  But he'll probably make more than the MLE somewhere else given the FA market this summer (lots of teams overpaying).

Tyrus Thomas is one of my top wish-list guys.  Athleticism and potential...that's what the Celtics need to start stockpiling.

Is Thomas a free agent?

Haslem would be a great pickup from a talent perspective but considering the C's only have the MLE and vet min contracts available, Haslem is not the player they'll go after.

The C's have a bigger need at back up SF and PG that they should be addressing with the MLE before they start adding to their frontcourt (which they have 4 players under contract for those spots already).

As a player, he'd be a terrific addition for any team.  It just won't be the C's next year.

From a physical standpoint, Thomas is perfect.  From a mental standpoint, forget about it.  Haslem competes and Thomas looks like Stromile Swift number two.
