I never did D+D or cosplay or Magic, but I figure some of you did. So what would you say it's the equivalent of?

I'm leaning towards Risk

Its dungeons and dragons for jocks. At least, it is for people who take fantasy sports seriously. From the CB draft to my keeper league in football to the staff fantasy basketball league, i take my fantasy sports seriously, and I'm far from the most dedicated offender there. I'm middle of the pack in terms of fantasy fanaticism.

The only difference, I guess, is that in fantasy sports you can have casual players, whereas in D&D, that's not the case, but I might be wrong there.

But in practice, casual fantasy players have a name, and its 'loser'.

I think Fantasy Sports is ALOT different than board games.

For 1.) in Fantasy Sports, the regular people don't really PLAY haha.

I'm leaning towards Risk, because you sorta set up your troops in a certain way, and the other team can't exactly tell what you're doing till you do it, but there's still elements of risk and chance, like injury and whatnot, and everyone is doing the same thing at the same time...cruddy 7000th post

Big difference: You don't obsess over risk while you're not playing it, or constantly fidget with your strategy, doing tons and tons of research to make sure you're the most prepared player out there.

Picture says it all. You don't do that in Risk. In D&D (as I understand it, never even tried to play), you've got pages upon pages of material you need to know about your character, you've got dungeon masters with literal books that walk you through just one episode, and the past performances have influences on future events.

I don't know a ton about D&D, but outcomes are determined by character stats (agility, strength, etc.?), mixed with random chance (die rolls).

Fantasy basketball outcomes are determined by player stats (points, rebounds, etc.), mixed with random chance (actual performance).

It seems like a fairly apt analogy to me, but I don't really know a ton about D&D.  It's definitely more on-point than most of the other board games I can think of, though.

I went with Battleship.

It helps if you try to set yourself up good to start and to have good strategy going into the attack, but more times than not it comes down to luck.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I didn't see "Crack" listed as a choice.

As a former D&D player, I see some analogies. But I think it's a lot more like Monopoly. You buy and trade properties (players), and there's a significant element of chance as to how those properties pay dividends.
