Lol.

Just get rid of everybody!

Let's make everybody else stronger so we can be the worst team in the league.

Marcus needs to be able to run the point and Tatum needs to play the 3.

Smart
Brown
Tatum
FA Pf
FA center

Hayward super 6th man
Baynes

At center I'd love Vucevic or Cousins.  Both would need a defensive pf to help. My choices would be Taj Gibson.

I'd trade all the picks but 1 for a chance at Garland.

Smart
Brown
Tatum
Taj
Vucevic or Cousins

Garland
Hayward
Baynes

Robert Williams

I think this team could win the east.

Take the 1 draft pick and take Chuma Okeke.

With Horford leaving, Smart is almost untradeable, IMO. Team would fall completely apart without him. I get he would cost us lottery spots if we're really bad, but he's the guts of the team now. He can also eat valuable minutes at either guard spot when we need him to. He also won't take a lot of shots away from Tatum.

Gotta keep him.

I know you're being sarcastic, but the good news is the Celts don't need to be the worst team in the league in order to have decent lottery odds.

With Brown and Tatum the Celts won't be the worst team out there, in all likelihood.  They'll also have Hayward for at least half the season.

More likely they'll be in the middle group of teams that aren't elite on offense or defense or solid enough overall to be in serious playoff contention.  My guess would be 30-35 wins.

It would be cool to see Mirotic and Vucevic. I am on board giving up the Memphis picks (and 2 of this year's firsts) to get Garland.

Garland
Brown
Tatum
Mirotic
Vucevic

Then

Smart
Hayward
Baynes

I think you have to put a defensive minded pf with Vucevic.

Orlando tried that with Ibaka. It didn't work well. I don't think it would fare any better with Taj Gibson.

I like what Orlando have with Aaron Gordon. A two way PF. If there was a way to get someone like him, I'd be all for it.

In the meantime, I feel better about someone like Mirotic than Taj Gibson (who I think has been a noose around the neck of Minny's offense for the last two years next to Towns and should really only be a 20mpg backup center at this juncture in his career like Baynes is).

Mirotic will open the offense up. Give Boston a feared 3 point shooter. Create space for Tatum, Vucevic and Jaylen to operate. Garland too if he were to join. Gibson would do the opposite and make life harder for all of those guys offensively.

The Celtics are going to be bad for a few years.

Smart is a winning player.  He's on a good deal and he's still relatively young.  However he's just the sort of player who helps you win games you don't need or want to win. And by the time the Celtics are good again, he will probably have gotten a lot of wear and tear from making lots of hustle plays in meaningless regular season games.

Trade Marcus Smart. He should go be on a team that's competing for titles. I want to see him in the Finals.

Easily the worst take I have seen thus far.

After this tumultuous offseason (and its not even July yet), I think it would serve the roster well to keep around some of the vets for stability.  There is no greater glue guy on that roster now (assuming Al is gone) than Smart.  He's the heart & soul.

You need that presence to start '19-20 to help ease the transition to a new era that seems like will be Jayson/Jaylen based.

If you decide to move him down the road, fine.  You don't do it now, though.

why would we be trading our new starting pg?

https://sports.yahoo.com/marcus-smart-seems-ready-over-025628394.html

Exactly.  Smart - Brown - Tatum - Hayward - tbd center isn’t a terrible starting 5 depending on the center.  If that center is Adams from OKC it might work.

As crazy as this idea sounds I see Pho Sita's point.

Big Al is SO CRUCIAL to making this team go...he does EVERYTHING so well.

Big Al was had the most impact during that magical run we had last year...he provided leadership....stellar defense on Giannis and Embiid...exceptional passing....timely scoring...

Yes he IS getting older....yes he did NOT play as well this year as hoped....

But as Gary Washburn stated in that article....there are some cases where you SHOULD consider overpaying........

I believe Pho's point is that it will be HIGHLY UNLIKELY that this team sees another run like that...so why keep Smart around....Smart WILL BE Smart...he impacts winning.

He will be a GOOD SOLDIER regardless of the players around him...but is the current climate fair to him?

I won't be so quick to dismiss Pho's argument. Unless Danny has a grand plan (and he could very well have one) then why hold on to Smart?
