Minnesota trades Karl-Anthony Towns

Boston trades Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams III, Memphis Pick

It is a large package but this is the weight of a package it would take to land KAT. And while it seems like a large overpay, look at our long term team (post-Kemba signing):

PG: Kemba Walker
SG: Gordon Hayward
SF: Jayson Tatum
PF: TBD
C: Karl-Anthony Towns

My good God. That team is insanely good looking. Doesn't matter who we plug into PF. Maybe Grant Williams grows into that spot. Maybe a league exception target. Maybe a vet minimum savvy PF.

Something tells me KAT is the target in terms of cashing in all these assets.

I made a similar proposal, but included taking Wiggins contract, which Wolves are trying to dump. Got killed here; apparently Towns is untouchable, at least for now.  So they say.

Towns is an Anthony Davis level talent under a full 5 year contract. He's untouchable.

TP for the original thought. Rather not take back Wiggins however.

Yeah, and if/when he does want out of Minnesota he is going to get them a huge return. Look at what New Orleans got for Davis from a team that, if they kept their cap situation under control, could most likely have signed him a season later anyway.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Rather overpay for a great player like Towns than underpay for a good player like Capela. (if that makes sense)

Minnesota has him signed through 2023.

He's not going anywhere in the near future.  They hitched their wagon to him with that contract.  And I don't blame them.

Towns is untouchable.  I honestly don't think there is a single player in the league for whom they would let him go.  He's an elite offensive player and he really upped his defensive game this year.

No way they trade him right now. Maybe 2 years down the road if he becomes disgruntled and demands a trade.

Yeah, some take it a bit too far.

Anyway.....if the Wolves were looking to include Towns, I'd take the Wiggins contract.

I feel Towns could be Ainge's new trade target.

True, but it seems like we've seen this movie play out with other teams, Minnesota included
