Pitched one of the iconic seasons in baseball history. If you grew up in the 60s or 70s and were a baseball fan just the number 1.12 is enough of a reference to perhaps the greatest pitching season of all time. That was Gibson’s ERA in 1968. Which came following a game 7 complete game WS victory over the Sox in which he hit a 3-run homer. I attended Game 6 btw as a 9 year old with my older brother. I don’t remember a dang thing except the subway ride after.
Brock and Gibson were amazing in such a great era of the game. I recall reading Gibsons biography as a kid. I was not much of a reader then but that one I read. If memory is correct I think he suffered from severe asthma.
