Title: Stein - Boston making a run at Tyreke Evans
Post by: Moranis on February 21, 2013, 11:36:41 AM
Nothing mentioned about who Boston was looking to move and I frankly can't come up with a trade that doesn't involve Rondo where it would make sense for Sacramento.

Latest word out of Boston: Celtics making deadline-day run at player they've pursued before ... Tyreke Evans

Kings, until today, have been rejecting all interest in Tyreke. But @mr_jasonjones of Sacramento Bee reports Kings revisiting that stance

I wouldn't trade Bradley straight up for him if it worked salary wise (and it doesn't) if it was me...

Just told Tyreke Evans won't be dealt today by person familiar with the situation. Kings leave for ATL in about 90 minutes

A rookie done for the year with a back injury.  The same back injury that caused him to drop in the draft.  Who was taken 16 spots after the very similar player that they just traded.  Unlikely.  I suppose though if it was Bradley, Sullinger, and Melo it may make some sense for Sacramento.

Just because Sacramento doesn't have enough PFs? :) Plus, a filler is not needed, Evans makes only five million.

Lee and a pick is a better deal, but seems a tad light for a player of Evans' talent.

If we are going to rebuild, acquiring talent and assets is more important than worrying about position.

Evans is about to hit free agency and he's incompatible with Rondo.  Unless Rondo is moved, this would be a rental.  A win now kind of move.

Probably wont even cost Bradley...did you see exactly what they just sent their number 5 pick to Houston for?

Kings Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins have been given the impression that they would not be dealt, a source said.

Marc stein

Source texted to say "no legs" behind reports of Kings' Tyreke Evans to Celtics, and while there may have been talks, they're dead now.

Asset acquisition is always smart if you are rebuilding.  If you want to fully rebuild you aren't worried about compatibility that much.

Yeah, if Rondo is involved, I want Cousins too.  If its just Tyreke we are getting (or anyone else on their roster other than Cousins), then Rondo, KG, and Pierce are untouchable.

On the surface they're incompatible, but why couldn't they adapt to playing together?  They're both talented, the biggest obstacle in them figuring it out is Tyreke's non existent bball IQ.

Acquiring (and then paying big money) for an asset that can't play with your best player isn't smart team-building.

If Tyreke had one more year on his rookie deal, I would be amenable to trading for him because we could get more out of him as a trade asset.

We need both guards and bigs. The only healthy guards we have are Avery, JET, and Lee.

a 23 year old starting PF on a team in the playoffs in the west, plus 2 other respectable bench players.

We need scorers, point blank.  It really makes no difference what position because we lack depth at all of them.

After Pierce and KG our two next best scorers are Terry and Green at 10 PPG.  If our top two scorers are putting up LeBron + Wade numbers that's fine, but when the top scorers are averaging 18 and 15 (and barely at that) and you next best scorers are putting up 10 apiece, then you're screwed.  Totally and utterly.

As far bench depth:

PG- Terry, T-Wil
SG - Terry, T-Wil
SF - Green, T-Wil
PF - Wilcox, Green
C - Wilcox, Collins, Melo

We are three deep at every position at best, and you'll note we are depending a LOT on T-Wil and Wilcox to even get that deep.  Wilcox is injury prone, and we have no clue what T-wil can give us yet

Ironically center is our deepest position right now - our backups may not be great, but we physically have 3 guys who can play that spot.

What happens if Lee (for arguments sake) goes down? Were screwed.

Evans would be a godsend, so would Josh Smith.  The way I see it we have two choices right now - win now or rebuild.  For win now we need to trade Rondo (plus parts) for Josh Smith or Tyreke Evans.  For rebuild we need to try and diitch Pierce and KG for Smith, Bledsoe and D-Jordan (if we can still pull that off).
