Good idea. I always thought it had a bad connotation in a league full of black players and white owners.

i don't see why this is an issue or if this is just people getting more sensitive

they are owners, they "own" the team. I never saw it as a black players and white owners, They bought the team as if it's a company.

can you own a restaurant? can you own a small business? But you can't own a professional sports franchise?

This is where I’m at I think. It seems like much ado about nothing, when they are literally owners.

LOL...Adam Silver has lost his [dang] mind. The morons that he's pandering to with such a statement make me think Silver isn't fit for such a position.

I think the better term to phase out would be “assets” when referring to players, if one is concerned about this issue.  I grant that’s more of an NBA media thing than an official league definition, but that word has a lot more trouble in my mind (and I’m sure I’ve used it myself.)

I agree stupid, unless Silver is playing politics within the league. I mean he needs to please ownership, sure, but players drive the league more than ownership in the NBA moreso than any other sport, I think. So maybe he is just trying to become a strong players ally and not just ownership’s ally so he can use his leverage when he needs to and build up some goodwill for when he may need to cash in.

this.  Political correctness at its worst.  they own the team, not the players.

Dumb. Just more virtue signaling.

I hate that term. It's a way of dismissing someone else's point of view as disingenuous without any kind of supporting evidence. Pretty sweet way to tell someone you don't think they have the moral threshold to have an actual opinion they believe in.

Personally, I think it's a bit over the top. But at the same time, who cares? If people are getting actually offended by it, if it is something that really triggers players or fans, it's a lot easier to change that terminology than it is to change peoples minds. What are you gonna do, campaign on why calling someone an 'owner' is a good thing?
