What picture does it paint to future free agents when they see Boston make a marquee FA signing (which is a rarity for the Celtics), only to see them trade that FA 3-4 months in. They are the 3rd seed in the East, it's not like they are tanking.

You guys knew this team wasn't making it out of the East this season.. right? I'd rather we develop the young players, and build around IT/Smart/Horford/Brown (add using Nets Picks, another FA signing this summer - preferably a big, and get Zizic/Yabusele over here).

But I've seen like 10 different posts and even a few threads saying we should trade Horford...

TP. Some folks think that everything happens in isolation. They play NBA 2017 and think that players and GMs have no memory. They think the game is all numbers and players are robots.

Trading Horford would be absolutely the worst thing for this team. The Cs would never get another decent FA to even talk with the team for a decade. It would send a signal to the team that promises aren't kept by the FO. It would be the ruin of this version of the Cs and the only recourse would be to trade the vets, tank and start over because it would just rip the heart out of the team.

Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

People laughed at me for thinking out loud about trading Horford. But I was right.

The opposite of a diamond is Al Horford.  He makes KO look like Rambo.

It paints the picture you don't get to sign a max contract, come in here, and be the 4th best player.

Exactly

It's very possible Horford gross contract has affected team chemistry and spawned jealousy.

It's silly season. The doldrums.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Well if you can get good value for him it's worth it.
