Rudy.  It pretty much always comes back to Rudy.  Life throwing you curveballs? Challenges on the horizon? Enjoying a recent success? Rudy is always there to embrace it with you.

I listen to 'film scores' radio often when I'm work working.  And when the Rudy theme comes on, the work truly starts taking care of itself.  Highly recommend anyone to try it.

That explains a lot. You're like fat Jon Favreau cheering little IT on.

Seven Samurai (1954). Been a while since I watched anything by Kurosawa, and now I remember why I love his films so much.

Love this film. Was also one of my paternal grandfather's favourites.

Sorry To Bother You

Good satire. It takes a bizarre turn in the third act but nothing that isn't in line with the already bizarreness of the world already established. Good performances, captivating imagery. It's a good movie just not a great one. Very rough around the edges, uneven pacing. It feels a lot like a first film but I'll show up for whatever Riley does next.

Plus, I love Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson, and Armie Hammer is climbing the ranks.

I remember watching this one more than a decade ago on TV. Don't recall details, but for a movie to stick to memory for so long there must be something to it.

The First Purge. About as expected. The first half was decent, the second half (the part with most of the action) was boring, I thought.

I can't ever watch or hear about a Purge movie without thinking about how many insane white-collar crimes would be going on behind closed doors while all the rubes are throwing on Day-Glo and hacking each other up with machetes.

The Reflecting Skin (UK/Canada, 1990)

An eight year old boy in postwar Idaho encounters a series of strange events. It's classified as a horror film, but it's primary aim isn't to scare you. It feelsmore like a succession of loosely related nightmare sequences. The music of Nick Bicât does a lot to sustain tension, and the photography (set primarily in the prairie) is beautiful. The director spent a lot of time taking care of light and colours to the point of spray-painting the wheatfields.

It's something of a cult classic, a genre of its own.

The Cat People (USA,1942)

Horror film about a beautiful but troubled Serbian woman who finds love in NY. It's considered a landmark and rightly so, as it inspired many of the cliches that you'll find today in any horror film (eg the Lewton bus scene). Despite its historical significance I felt parts of the film (esp. the first half) don't work for a modern audience. And having an actress (Simone Simon) with an obvious French accent play a Serbian feels a bit silly. Still, the climax at the end of the film is worthwhile.

File that away for when they start running out of sequel ideas.

The Purge: Boardroom

The whole thing is like Glengarry Glen Ross except there's constant gunfire and screaming happening outside that everyone ignores. The pressure is superhigh because if you're fired during the Purge they don't have to pay your severance package.

Mission Impossible: Fallout

Another highly entertaining movie in the Mission Impossible franchise. The passion Cruise has for this franchise is obvious, and the fact that he is still doing these crazy stunts at 56 is even more amazing. My favorite action sequence, among many, may have been the motorcycle chase. Henry Cavill plays a fantastic role, and plays it perfectly. Really looking forward to seeing this again.

4.5/5

But also do you want to fire someone on the day when murder is legal? So maybe you just murder them?

This thing writes itself.

just saw Rampage.   meh.  CGI was something else but the plot, writing and acting weren't very good.  one of those movies you kind of know what to expect going into in and getting about what you expected but not much else.

Yeh.  That was pretty bad.  Even with the expectations for it being exactly what it is.
