Title: Hurricane Michael...FLCeltsFan affected (Please contribute to GoFundMe)
Post by: FLCeltsFan on October 14, 2018, 02:52:47 PM
Hi Celtics family.  First of all I have to say that God is good.  We took a direct hit from Hurricane Michael and my family is all ok.  The house is another story.

Trees came through the roof on both came through the roof on both ends of the house.  Trees are blocking the road in and out so we have to walk to get in or out.  No electric or water but we have food and bottled water that will hopefully last until they can cut their way in here.

We have a generator but gas will be a problem unless we can get out.  I have no cell service but my son loaned me his so I could let you all know I'm safe.

Unfortunately, I will be without power for several weeks at the least.  It looks like a war zone and 95% of power polls are down and with the damage to the house it will be awhile.  I'm so sorry but I won't be able to do game threads for awhile.  But I'll be cheering for my Celtics even though I won't be able to follow them for awhile.

I probably won't be able to check back for awhile but I am thinking of you all.

Heartbreaking, FLCF. My thoughts, best wishes and prayers, and I think the rest of the board will agree with me, as well as the thoughts, best wishes and the prayers of everyone here at CelticsStrong are with you. Don't worry about the game threads, they are completely unimportant as compared to what you will be going through over the next several weeks and months.

You take care. We all love you here.

As an aside, I will take over the setup of game threads. They won't be FLCF good, but I will try my best.

I’m glad to hear that you and your family are physically safe.

I’m very sorry about your home.  It’s kind and generous of you to think of us here, but please don’t spend another thought on the game threads.

Let us know how we can assist you.

This is terrible news, and I hope things get better for you and your family soon. TPs to everyone here, especially to nick for stepping up to do the game threads.

This stinks, sorry for the loss, I hope you get the aid and help you need to get back on your feet.   Maybe there is a Celtics backer type club near you.

From a Celtics fan in FLA to another, I hope you stay safe and can get everything back together

As you've said the important thing is that you and your family are safe. So grateful for that. And so sorry for the physical damage and major life disruption that you are dealing with.

This probably goes without saying but you know if there's anything people here can do to help, just ask and we'll find a way. Good luck with the recovery and go Celtics!

Glade to hear your family survived and is safe

We have family at Panama Beach , they are living in the garage with a gen and gas grill.

We just survived Florence couple weeks back. I live on the Beach at below Moorehead City , NC , we ran off a generator , stored supplies and water for 6 days .  I was draining the cars gas tanks to run the generator .  Our town is still ruff , but Ill say now where near as bad as some Florida pics I seen...wow!  Many people lost everything here , cars , homes , they never had flooding in history , that it flooded during Florence.  They ate ruined , no insurance .   We ve had people from Michigan, Ohio, Florida , TX , and many more states working here non stop in clean up.  It will take another 6-12 months to get back close to where we were.

I feel you pain.

So sorry to hear about this FLCeltsFan. My parents live in Florida in the Fort Pierce area so I know about the fear concerning storms and hurricanes, its really scary and I hope you can get back on your feet quickly. We’ll all be looking forward to your return and the return of your game threads.

In the meantime, you can catch game replays on nbafullhd.com if you can access internet at times.

Update. They finally cut through the trees in the road yesterday so we can get out for water and fuel although still  no power in the area and lines for the one station open on generators means 3 to 4 hour wait.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.  I  would appreciate continued prayers.

Thank you to Nick for doing game threads till I can get back. My thoughts will be with my Celtics  tonight. At least I got the first thread up before the storm hit.

I' ok check in again when I can.

TP FLCeltsFan!!!!!

You have greatly enhanced many members of this community's enjoyment of this blog including mine.

This blog came together (thanks byennie) to fund the blog. Can we get together and help out a fellow member in crisis.

I'm not very technologically adept, but if someone would set up a relief effort/fund, I'd be glad to contribute.

Anybody's expertise/skill area?

TP.... would love for one of the mods or someone with goFundMe experience to contact her and get her permission.

I don’t think we need to get her to state publicly in this forum that she needs/wants help.

If someone contacted her and helped set up the goFundMe, implicit in their setting it up would be that it has her approval.

With huge deductibles that often are there as well as the Loss and devastation she described, No doubt that the need is there.

I started the process but ran up against this:

Transparency is always the best policy. Please include the following information in your story:

1. Who you are
2. Where you're from
3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for
4. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)

Remember that you will be held accountable for using any money raised in the exact manner you state within your campaign.

Thank you for your cooperation!

I guess I'd just need specifics on what money would be used the and what her real name is.

Maybe you could pm her and get her approval/info?

You’re both mods, maybe she would feel comfortable with you in that regard or maybe another mod?

Currently what happens is that Community threads *only* appear under the Community section on the right, and ditto for fantasy. This makes them slightly more sticky over time (and gives a quicker overview to new users)  but not mixed with more general Celtics talk.

That said we’ve gotten lots of feedback and are learning and will continue adjusting.

Specific to this, if we can get a Go Fund Me going I’m willing to pin that thread all the way to the top of the sidebar in its own section so it is THE featured thread.

I moved this to the Game Threads section for more visibility.

So so proud that the community here can do what little bit they can to help a person who has made our community so great.

Though we have hit our goal, let's not think we need to stop. Insurance doesn't always cover everything and can be a long time coming before you get the money to do what needs doing. Meanwhile, the mortgage needs paying. Buying gas to run the generator needs to be bought. There is a thousand things that need to be done and sometimes the paycheck or pension check or social security check can go only so far.

So continue to give CelticsStrong. FLF has been doing the game threads and Celticsblog front page Celtics news for over a decade for your enjoyment. I am doing the game threads. It is a time consuming effort of love that she does which, after doing a couple of threads, I am amazed at the amount of work she has put in over the years for us.

So keep giving. Any little bit helps.

I was finally able to get my son's phone to check in again.  They are slowly getting roads cleared and we have been able to get out.  The whole area is so devastated.  There are so many good people here helping the area to recover.

Thank you for thinking of us and for helping us.  The insurance adjuster was here today and it looks like we have to pretty much rebuild much of the house.  It is a challenge with no electricity and no water and limited phone.  And so many people are in the same position contractors are limited.

Please tell redz and everyone on Celtics Strong thank you for me as I don't have time to update the thread also.  I saw the score of Tuesday's game and I'm thrilled. Defense is back!!!   Will check back again when I can.   Thank you again.  I am humbled by the love.

Update

Things are looking up. We got power yesterday.  Yahoo!!  But still only have cold water when the generator is on.  We need the well guy to come in to give us water all the time.   Will need a contractor to fix the end of the house the tree crushed before we get hot water.

We did finally get on a list for a contractor and a roofer but the list is long so we will be living with holes in the roof for awhile.  But we have tarps up that keep most of the rain out.

The Comcast bldg was badly damaged so cable and internet will be a bit slower to come but they are working on it.

Anyway that's an update so slowly things are getting back to normal.  Still a long way to go, though.   Thanks again for everything.   Let me know what else you need me to do.  I'm going to try to check in with the forum later with an update for everyone.

Thanks again for everything

Update from Florida

Still waiting on a new phone but for today I have 2 bars with verizon and though it is slow I can check mail.  Hopefully this will go through.

I am just so amazed and humbled by the love an support from Celtics fans  i've always done the links and game threads out of love for the Celtics and the Celtics community and seeing that love come back has had me in tears more than once.

Still no cable or water but things are slowly coming back.  Verizon service is still hit or miss.  Walmart and Sams are open as are a few other stores and most importantly gas stations.

Schools are planning to go back  Nov 12 but kids will have missed a whole month of school by then.  We are still waiting on a contractor to come fix the house and have tarps over the house where the trees came in.

Thank you again for everything.  I can't wait for cable to come back so I can watch Celtics again and get back to Celtics Strong.  I've missed that more than power and water even :)
