I grew up watching the WWWF on UHF stations like 27, 56, and 38. My dad and I saw a number of events at the Boston Garden. I then moved to SW GA and watched GCW, NWA, etc, wrestling in small events spread across GA. Choosing four is very difficult, do you go by what they meant to the sport, performance based, entertainment quality, I don't know.
I've read some online articles recently (yes, I still follow the "sport"), and even they're all over the place, many selecting wrestlers from the 90's and later, completely ignoring the earlier years.
If my feet were held to the fire, I would lean with these four:
1: Bruno Sammartino - Number 1 in my book. Carried the WWWF for years.
2: Hulk - Hulamankia brought in a whole new viewing audience.
3: Nature Boy Ric Flair - No explanation needed!
4: Stone Cold Steve Austin - When wrestling was changing in the 90's he was the guy![/li][/list]
That's a mighty fine list, but [dang], where's The Rock, Macho man, Shawn Michaels, Andre, Sting and the list goes on. All could easily be on the Mountain, but I'm sticking with my four!
Here's an interesting ranking. They have the same four as me, different order though, but they chose to go six in adding The Rock and Cena.
