Ainge found a lolipop in Mark Cuban...the Celtics are better for it!

Gimme a break!

Would you admit that it's likely that you, along with many here, simply overrated Rondo's value?

No.  Never.  It's the other way around, as evidenced by this 'trade.'

So Ainge received much better offers, but decided to do Cuban a favor. Got it.

I am starting to calm down now and coming to grips with this.   I went over to Mavs site and it seems like they have a ton of posters that are bummed about giving up Brandan Wright.   That is starting to make me feel better.
A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.

Push yourself again and again. Don't give an inch until the final buzzer sounds.

Maybe with the Mavs better now it will help push the Clippers pick to more of our liking. Lol

Ha, everyone else out here is playing checkers, while you and Danny are playing chess.

Let's not forget that this deal is supposedly giving us a sizable TPE and we're said to be looking to flip Wright before the deadline. The end result of this deal could be much better than it currently appears.

Who cares?  We got a 'sizeably tpe,' for Pierce, too, and Danny never even used it.  There's no two ways around it - this deal SUCKS.

Are you sure about that? How do you think we acquired Zeller and the Cavs 2016 1st rd pick simply by using it to take on Thornton?

Wow - what a return (sarcasm). ::)  Ainge SUCKS.

TE is definitely confusing with "this trade" right now.  Dallas trades the scrubs for TEs then uses that for Rondo. Giving C's back the TE but in a larger usable total?

We got Zeller and a 1st rd pick for taking on 1 year of Thornton. Not sure why the sarcasm. Yes, you like Rondo, but seriously how do you not see value in a TPE?

A larger total, which means we can get a higher salary - can't combine the TE to increase the salary it brings.

Maybe more importantly - TEs expire after a year, so we also reset the clock on using the TE, in addition to having a bigger one.

I agree, but the general consensus, from what I've briefly read, seems to be this was a steal by Dallas.

Breakdown: How C's get $12.9m exception

The Boston Celtics will generate a $12.9 million trade exception after their five-player, two-draft pick swap with the Dallas Mavericks is finalized on Thursday evening. Here's how it works:

• Boston sends: Rajon Rondo, Dwight Powell

• Dallas sends: Brandan Wright, Jameer Nelson, Jae Crowder, and a future first- and second-round draft pick

• How it works: Each team can present the deal differently to the league in order to maximize trade exceptions generated. Boston essentially lines up the deal by trading Rondo for no return, which generates a $12.9 million exception (his entire 2014-15 salary). Boston absorbs Wright's $5 million salary using Kris Humphries trade exception ($5.3 million), Nelson's $2.7 million via Joel Anthony trade exception ($3.8 million), and Crowder via the rest of the Anthony exception (or minimum salary exception).

• The next step: Boston was at the roster maximum of 15 players and by receiving three players in return, the Celtics must waive one additional player. That final detail should emerge when Boston formally announces the trade.
