Well, just because ESPN put up a new article on him:
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12509259/ohio-state-buckeyes-coach-thad-matta-says-greg-oden-make-return-nba

With money to spend like we'll have next year and on, you willing to give Greg Oden a shot?

To me, health decision I'll leave to the Celtics' organization to do their due diligence and trust their judgement on that regard.

My main question here is, are you guys willing to forgive the assault he gave to his ex-girlfriend?

Personally I'm a bit ambivalent on that issue. At the moment I'd lean on rolling the dice (of course depending on the contract and $$) if he's found to be healthy and projected a lasting health at least for the duration of whatever contract is offered.

Curious how you guys feel, particularly if the assumption of good health is there.

Drinking problem too allegedly.  At this point I'd probably pass.

Honestly, his drinking problem is of no concern to me, other than a repeat of the assault incident. But this wouldn't be a Vin Baker situation, I'm not advocating big money or a long contract on him. In elements that concern me, his drinking problem (if it's still prevalent, which i don't think it would be after the that incident, but who knows), that would be one of the least.

Health would be my main issue, and making peace with the assault on a personal level for me.

When was the last time he played basketball?  I mean, there comes a point where you need to have skills too.  He was great for a 19 year-old, but that was 8 or 9 years ago, and it's tough to imagine that his skills have done much other than erode.  It's sad, but it's time for everyone to move on.

How can you project anything positive about his health?  Even if he looks great in workouts, the likelihood of Oden, even in a backup role, making it through an NBA season without health issues is slim.  I wouldn't sign him for much more than vet minimum and I wouldn't guarantee more than one year.

He played last season, very reduced, but when he was on the court I liked what I saw for the most part. So  I don't see this being too much about a skills issue.

The only reason as far as I could tell for him not playing this year, why the Heat didn't bring him back, was because of the legal issues and the other things that sprang from it.

Honestly, no. I used to love the guy and was obsessed with a comeback, but I've given up. His body is just too messed up, and his skill set doesn't make a big enough difference (especially in our pace-and-space offense) to make up for the accomodations that would be needed. Frankly, I don't think he's worth the roster spot, and that's when you know it's time to move on. I now consider him Greg OverTheHillden. At this point, he's probably just looking for money.

...his has passed.  Especially for the Celtics.

Greg Oden was last healthy...as a high school senior...about a decade back. If he's up for taking a non-guaranteed minimum salary, I guess? But yeah, I wouldn't spend much time thinking about him.

lol @ the prospect of Greg Oden being "Legit Healthy".

I mean don't get me wrong, if Grant Hill was able to make a successful comeback then nothing is out of the question (his career was as good as over) but the probably is extremely slim.

I'd take a chance on him if you could get him on a vet minimum deal, but that's the only way I'd do it.

with too many disappointments and injuries throughout his short career

i dont think we should take a chance on him

also his skills may have declined as he hasnt played full contact NBA basketball in a while
so he wont be the franchise C people were expecting
