For the past 3 years, I've get your symptoms every winter while I've lived here. It's not necessarily an ear infection (although they are more likely while you you try and treat these symptoms.)
I've been to my doctor and an ear specialist - all they've been able to do is clean out my ear.
My first recommendation is to get a syringe. Sterilize it by boiling it. Then fill a clean mug with warm (but not too warm) water. Fill the syringe and use it to clean out your ear over the sink. You'll probably have to do it several times (five is par for the course). Once your ear is cleaned out - try and keep it as clean and dry as you can (this is a catch-22 difficult thing tends to result in ear infections)
If it lasts a long time or you're in massive pain, definitely go see a doctor for an antibiotic, but technically you're better off if you don't need one.
Of course, you may have something completely different than I do like the bug from the Wrath of Khan that's delving into your ear to take control of your body - but even if you do, the first thing your doctor will do is clean out your ear with warm water as above.
Good luck
