For the past 3 years, I've get your symptoms every winter while I've lived here. It's not necessarily an ear infection (although they are more likely while you you try and treat these symptoms.)

I've been to my doctor and an ear specialist - all they've been able to do is clean out my ear.

My first recommendation is to get a syringe. Sterilize it by boiling it. Then fill a clean mug with warm (but not too warm) water. Fill the syringe and use it to clean out your ear over the sink. You'll probably have to do it several times (five is par for the course). Once your ear is cleaned out - try and keep it as clean and dry as you can (this is a catch-22 difficult thing tends to result in ear infections)

If it lasts a long time or you're in massive pain, definitely go see a doctor for an antibiotic, but technically you're better off if you don't need one.

Of course, you may have something completely different than I do like the bug from the Wrath of Khan that's delving into your ear to take control of your body - but even if you do, the first thing your doctor will do is clean out your ear with warm water as above.

Good luck

  • You know my methods, Watson.
you're not supposed to touch your brain with a q-tip...not sure if it says so on the box, but that bit of advice is free.

It's probably an earwig.  Those little guys get into your ears at night and lay eggs.

TP my friend, that was hilarious!

Man up , in all seriousness I suggest seeking out a doctor or pharmacists help before heading to the emergency room, but I do think you should act sooner rather than later...

Good luck!

One thing you might consider is swimmer's ear. I had it a couple weeks ago and it doesn't take any real water exposure to develop. Swimmer's ear will cause the ear canal to swell and in some cases partially block. The ear canal will also secrete pus and in some cases bleed. A mix of alcohol and vinegar should be poured into the ear and left to soak for about a minute 4-5 times a day for about 3-4 days to cure it. May not be it, but it might be worth looking into.

In all seriousness, I have to know the answer to a couple of questions.

How much time elapsed between the blood on the swab and the decision to look for advice on this board?  Did you look for advice/info anywhere else first?

I am just trying to wrap my head around the "I am having a medical emergency, I need help....I know, CelticsBlog is the best place to get the answer.  I mean if they know Dino Radja's lifetime stats, they must know this!"
