Honestly, whether the Cs win the lottery and take him first overall, in the Top 3, or keep a pick in the 5-6 range and he falls to them, I just don't see DA passing on him - regardless of risk. He has the rarest skillset in the NBA and would fill a huge need for the Cs. Jabari may be a great kid and polished scorer, but the Cs don't need him like they need someone of Embiid's ilk.

I don't expect him to fall beyond the third pick, but I also didn't expect Noel to fall to six (or whatever he was). I do expect that the Cs won't pass on him if they have the chance.

Lol.  Let's look at how many centers around the NBA are having success this year.  I think the dominate center is slowly phasing out.  We need scorers that can create their own shots.

Yes and no. No doubt we need scorers, agree there 100 percent.

However, I do believe you also definitely need a dominant or at least decent center to succeed in the NBA.

I am just not quite sure why there's so much excitement regarding Embiid.

I mean say the Celts do draft him...he sounds like he's very talented but also quite raw which means he will need at least 2-3 years to develop.

And who knows if he even develops into a good player. Not to mention, he's got a skinny build and has had back issues. Sounds a bit questionable to me.

The odds of him dropping to five are far greater than the C's not ending with #5 and slipping to 6 or 7

So, for context, the warnings about Jared Sullinger's back before his draft didn't surface until June.

There is more info coming about Embiid's health. If he has issues that suggest likely chronic conditions, we will fall. If there's no further cause for concern, he won't.

This question boils down to- what are the odds that a one-and-done 7-footer with spinal stress fractures and an undisclosed minor knee injury will, under the scrutiny of pre-draft examinations, throw up a red flag?

I think the odds are quite good, actually. The 1-4 teams can all opt for safer choices with good to outstanding upside.

And at that point, why would the Celts even want to draft him?

Depends on workouts and his back. Exum, wiggins and Randle or Gordon will have to kill their workouts and Embiid's back may need to be Sullinger bad.

If we have 5 though and he's there, there will be some serious tears of joy. I take that risk everyday.

Highly, highly unlikely.

There should be a major red flag, most of it will have to be his back injury if he's going to drop. There's too much potential and physical prowess there.

Just about 0%, I would say.

I could see Parker, Wiggins, and Exum all going ahead of Embiid.

Just a matter of who that 4th guy would be to bump Embiid down to #5.

If Exum goes ahead of Embiid, the GM doing the picking is fired within the next 48 months.

If some nitwit takes Exum and leaves Embiid at 5, I'll be laughing uproariously at said nitwit and celebrating said nitwit at the same time.

Draftexpress and nbadraft.net both have Exum falling to #5.

Our most likely pick is #6, though.

Though if teams are scared I could see the draft play out like this...

1) Mil: Wiggins/Parker
2) Phi: Parker/Wiggins
3) Orl: Exum
4) Utah: Randle

Why will it be 6?? Try to be optimistic

Because that's what the odds say.

I believe LarBrd33 said there is a better chance that the Celtics pick 6th and not 5th is because mathematically they do.
5th is 23.7.%.
6th is 34.2 %.
They also have around a 33% chance of getting a top 3 pick.
