Maybe Embiid's injuries cost him a few draft positions and we can snag him with the 6th or 7th pick?

I don't expect Embiid to slide that far down tha draft like Noel did. But i didn't expect Nerlens to slide down to 6 last year either.

Doubtful, but it would be pretty awesome if he did.

is it worth the risk to draft an injury prone center? His potential is sky high but his injuries do worry me

Past performance has no bearing on future results.

Don't let the spectre of Sam Bowie scare you.

I'm not making comparisons to Sam Bowie, but to Greg Oden. Sky high potential that could be one of the greatest centers to play in the NBA but never showed anything because of injuries.

And judging the way we are playing, what are the chances we do get a top 3 pick this year?

I wouldn't draft Embiid and agree he has Greg Oden written all over him.

I would draft Parker, Randle and Wiggins before him if I had the number 1 pick.

Or, if I drafted his rights, I would include him in a trade.

Right now we have a little over a 1-in-5 chance at the top three. 22%. 6.5% chance of snagging the #1 spot.

I said it in another thread a couple of days ago; back issues are never good.

If its only a strain, that's one thing.  But if it is something more serious, those things don't seem to go away and get exacerbated with age.

It would certainly cause me some hesitation about drafting a guy.  Not saying I wouldn't draft Embiid anyways but I would certainly want to know how severe it is and what the long term diagnosis is.

Depends on what the back issue is-- anyone have any recent links to what, exactly, is wrong with him?

I will be thrilled if we can grab him with something like the 5th pick if he's gonna slide that much, but Danny and his team have to make sure that his back problems won't have much effect in long term like sully. It's gonna turn out to be the biggest steal of the draft if this happens.

However if I get the 1st pick, parker is my choice.

If we don't move and have the 7th pick like we are slotted at right now we would have to take him if he is there. It would be worth the risk.

I can see him dropping out of the top 3. I can't see him dropping past 4 or 5 though. Look how well Sullinger is doing. Drummond had a fractured vertebrae last season and he's great this year. Dwight Howard had back surgery and he recovered well.

Apparently he has a stress fracture in his back .  I'm not an orthopedist, but that doesn't sound too good.

I do think that whomever drafts Embiid would be wise to think of him as a backup for his first year.  He has a lot to learn, and he probably needs to prevent this from becoming a chronic issue.
