The rookie-sophomore challenge squads were just announced:

I sort of like the whole All-Star festivities.  The rookie challenge game is a joke (read dunkfest) but the skills competition is pretty good, 3-point competition is good, dunk contest is sorta stupid and the celebrity game is good for a hoot.

Opinions?

I like the All-Star festivities too.

It's a laid back event, the TNT guys due a great job of keeping it funny, and it's kind of cool to see the All-Stars, guys who are usually enemies, joking and goofing around with each other.  It's a nice break, and it's cool to see the not so serious side of a lot of the guys.

Barkley racing Bavetta.
Shaq kissing TMac
Kenny Smith as the Russian judge.
Elevator Earnie Johnson (which I think they first showed during an All-Star weekend)

Good times!  :)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

One of these things seems to happen almost every All-Star game, which makes it fun to watch:

I personally am not a fan of any All Star games.  I didn't watch the Pro Bowl and probably haven't watched a complete MLB or NBA All Star game in years (though I've seen bits).

I really don't think that the All Star games are really that much better than the rookie/sophomore game dunkfest: while there might be some effort, it's still about half as much as a regular season game.  So to me, it's really not worth making time.

This year might be a little different.  I'll tune in if PP and Ray are both in the 3pt contest and I'll likely tune in if there's 4 Celtics and Doc on the bench.
