Huge blow for Dallas. Looks like the west is either for LA to take or San Antonio.

It's a big blow, but not one that Dallas can't recover from.

They still have plenty of frontcourt depth, battle-tested veterans, Butler's expiring deal, and a rich fan-boy owner.

I expect Dallas to make a big deal before the deadline to remain a top-3 contender in the West.

This.  This obviously is a big blow for them but they can still make a deal for a good player and remain in contention.

I didn't think they were quite good enough to come out of the west before this injury. They'll need to make a trade to reclaim contender status now.

If they get the right deal they could end up better than before.

If the reports are true that they're willing to rent Carmelo I think that they're definitely going to do it now.

this could be a blessing in disguise for Dallas. It may force them to trade Butler and pieces for a better player.

For example if they trade Bubois (sp?), Marion, and Butler for Melo (plus some bits and pieces) that is a big upgrade for Dallas IMO.  Not sure if that is enough but just saying it works.

I'm not sure the Melo helps them all that much. They already have Dirk who can do pretty much everything Melo can when it comse to scoring. Melo has never been much of a play maker.

I've heard rumors of Iguodala for Butler and sweetener (Beaubois?).

Not sure if Iggy could co-exist with the rest of the Mavs starting five (not enough touches), but he could be a great replacement for Butler.

Big blow but this is just more of an incentive to get rid of Butler because I think he hurts them more than helps them anyway. Not a huge fan of Butlers game and he definitely takes Dallas' chances at a title away for me. He is a shoot first guy who has a terrible shot selection. If they can flip him in a deal for Melo, then Dallas jumps into top 4 in the league. Even Iggy would be a better fit than Butler.

I think Iggy could flourish in Big D--he's a proven defender (big upgrade over Butler) which is becoming a staple for them this year and he can obviously score. They like to run so he could finish well on the break without taking the ball out of Dirk's hands in a half court set. That's one reason why Melo wouldn't work there--he needs the ball a lot to be effective, and so does Dirk.

Stinks for Dallas. I was hoping they'd give LA some problems. >:(

Iguodala would be a great fit in Dallas, and they can probably lock him up long term if they want as well.
