Unless they draft another mormont and sign a good FA and then they are a fringe Playoff team.

I'm different than most.  I birdin the hand is better than 2 in the bush.  Trade the pick or let it convey this year.  No guarantee it will even be a lottery pick the following year.  Why wait 2 years for a pick to not be a lottery pick?
you wait because the NBA is all about risky gambles. Plus we don't have salary for another player

You always have salary for your draft picks.  You never worry about tax money for rookies.  With the youth on our roster for our core you really want to get your players in the same age range.

Its a roll of the dice, yes. But the pick is UNPROTECTED. Plus, the '21 draft class looks loaded for about the top 8 picks. It's a chance the C's and their fans should hope for. A chance to land a possible star player. That's not the case in this upcoming draft if we wind up with a pick around 8.

They have a very winnable game tonight against the Warriors.

A pick is more valuable in a trade than a player. Having the pick roll over raises its expected value pre-season and gives the Celtics more time to trade it.

FWIW Memphis is 5-8 with a -7.52 SRS (26th in the league) and an expected win/loss record of 3-10. Second worst net rating in the west, only better than the Warriors.

They're still on track to get a top 6 lottery pick.

Real clutch loss for the pick.

Morant is clearly good, unfortunately for our pick.

Just for kicks I decided to look at some pick histories, to get a feel for what teams have got in the range we’d be in next year if the Memphis pick conveys. No great insights but one weird fact to report. Over the past 20 years teams have done MUCH better at 9 than 8. How much better?

The best picks at 9 are: Steph Curry, Gordon Hayward, Kemba Walker, Amare Stoudamire, DeMar DeRozan, Andre Iguodala, Joakim Noah. (And if you go back to ‘97 you can add Shawn Marion, Dirk, and T-Mac.)

At 8 it’s hard to find a single great player. Highlights are Jamal Crawford, Rudy Gay. After that it’s Brandon Knight and a lot of meh players. If you go to 99 you can add Andre Miller.

Weird how that’s shaken out, and a reminder of how I exact this all is.

If I were a Grizzlies fan, I'd be worried about Morant's reckless drives and awkward landings.

While picks are usually more valuable, you can't discount the value of being able to count them for salary matching. That could be a major factor for us if we want to make a trade for someone making more than ~$15 million
I'm bitter.

Depends on where it is and who is available, can't answer it until we know those variables.
