Anybody panicking yet because we're five hours into FA and the Pats haven't spent wildly yet?

The Bears have a ton of cap space as well, and a lot of fans are freaking out because they have "only" signed a RB and a safety.  It's like fans think the entire off-season should be condensed to one afternoon.

Does signing Gibson signal that the Pats aren't going to pursue Henry?

They did sign Henry.   Do you mean Elliot?

Think he means Derrick Henry.

Oops.  Didn’t know they were looking at DH. Thanks.

Gibsons a nice player, he can do a lot of things.  he has a problem hanging onto the ball though, he had a knack for fumbling at the worst possible time here.  That’s what really got him in the doghouse.

Patriots re-signing Onwenu is solid

Sources: The #Patriots are re-signing versatile OL Michael Onwenu, one of their cornerstone players, to a 3-year, $57M deal including $38M guaranteed. A clear priority for New England, he gets a $22.5M signing bonus.

LETS GO!

Interestingly enough, the Pats have expressed a lot of interest in Tyron Smith. If they get him, they suddenly have both tackle positions addressed with solid depth (Okorafor, Mafi, Sow, etc.) and the O-Line is transformed. You can still draft a tackle/guard prospect in the draft too, but there's no pressure to take one in the very first round. And even if Smith gets hurt a bit, you can survive a few games with Okorafor and the depth.

If you don't want to splurge on Ridley as Moranis says, then Smith feels like a no-brainer. Beef up the O-Line further. Pats still have a lot of cap space remaining.

This is huge. Very important.

Absolutely.  And still have a ton of space to continue to address the o-line as well as other needs.

I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger deal to be honest. I was starting to get nervous when I saw what other guards were getting today.

Great signing, and and helps us build toward the future.

Makes all the sense in the world. Even as a backup option he's great, and could be a nice bridge or even mentor to the #3 pick if they take QB

Now please go ahead and cut Zappe. Purge the previous toxic QB room

Have to say, Wolf is doing extremely well so far in FA. Lot of people expected them to get Brissett and they did. He's also done an awesome job keeping quite a few of our key guys (Henry, Onwenu, Bourne, etc.). Yes ideally we want some external upgrades too but there's still time, and obviously the draft. I think they still have over 65M in cap space at the moment. Tyron Smith would be an awesome next get.

Call me a pessimist but I'm pretty sure if Belichick was still GM, he would have let Onwenu walk, a few others as well while signing a bunch of mediocre special teamers. I think it's kinda telling that they also released Parker as well as dumped Chris Board who was a "core special team guy" that BB signed last offseason (and did practically nothing btw)

Malcolm Butler officially hangs up the cleats. Thanks for Superbowl 49...greatest interception of all time.

Will also never forget how big-ego Belichick put you in the doghouse in Superbowl 52, which costed the Patriots the Superbowl. Had you been able to play a few defensive snaps that game over Jordan Richards, we win that game and riding on a 3peat.

Is this really news? He hasn't played since 2000.

I will never understand the Malcolm Butler worship, especially when it comes to his Superbowl benching. You would think he was the second coming of Derrell Revis. It's very simple...the Patriots lost that Superbowl because Brady couldn't lead the offense to touchdowns in the first half, and had to settle for field goals. The team had to play catch up the whole second half.

BTW, Malcolm Butler only played 3 more seasons after the "benching". Meanwhile, Nick Foles was and remained to be a journeyman quarterback.

More like they lost the Superbowl because the defense allowed 41 unacceptable points-- mainly, to blame, coaching.
