Personally, I think Jones should have thicker skin here if it was simply swearing but people also need to understand that as spectators at sporting events, they don't just have free reign to say whatever they want without the threat of ramifications.

Or....

You can have some respect and civility, and not spout harsh words that you wouldn't say to their face?

I bet you half the people talking trash to these players wouldn't dare say it to them 1 on 1.

I don't necessarily agree with CE -- I think swearing at games can quickly get out of hand -- but I also don't agree with this line of thinking.  Would most people boo a player one on one?  Tell Lebron, or the Yankees team, that they suck?

I'm all for making ballparks and other athletic venues more family friendly.

Whilst that is true, I think harsh vulgar words are far worse than saying, "hey LeBron, you suck!"

There was a woman who called LeBron a pu***.

Should she have been kicked out? Most definitely. But she didn't, so I guess this is where the gray area lies. It is simply hard to differentiate who should be kicked, and who shouldn't. At the end of the day, aren't you there to have fun? Most sports games have a lot of families or avid fans with relatives.

You should be able to say whatever you want.

Players have become snowflakes.
And the world is becoming so far left that everyone might as well just stay at home and watch games on the tv....where you can say whatever you want and a beer is less than a buck.

Sure.  Say whatever you want and face the ramifications of it if you do.

Its as much about keeping a family friendly environment these days as it is player/coach/ref protection.

I think most people would believe it is hard to comment on without knowing exactly what was said. i feel like if the fan got excited on a play and said "you are *^&^ out of there!", maybe a warning from an usher to tell them to tone down the language would be appropriate. That would be pretty crazy to get kicked out at an event that they are serving alcohol and people are screaming and the scoreboard is trying to get people to make noise and be rowdy. Some cursing is pretty common at a baseball game, especially if you are out in the bleachers. Now if the fan let off a string of swears and they were personal swears at the player like the b word, I can understand kicking a fan out for that.

https://www.mlb.com/redsox/ballpark/information/code-of-conduct

"The Fenway Park Code of Conduct

    Avoid balls in play

    Never trespass onto the field

    Drink responsibly

    Help keep Fenway Park clean

Refrain from offensive language and hate speech

    Be respectful of others

    Keep cell phone conversations private

    Sit only in your seats

Do not use tobacco in Fenway Park

Violators are subject to ejection and other penalties including a lifetime ban.

If someone is detracting from your enjoyment of the game, please call the security hotline at 617-226-6411, which is printed on the back of your ticket, or text the word "security" to 23215 with message. On behalf of the Red Sox and the fans of Red Sox Nation, we thank you for observing the Code of Conduct."

This is the fan code of conduct at Fenway.  Every park has one, and supposedly a league-wide policy with minimum standards was initiated last season (though I could not locate it on MLB's crappy website).  Bottom line: people need to understand what terms they are agreeing to when they make a purchase.

Offensive language could kind of mean anything though. If saying the f word and yea after a big play is offensive language, they could kick out half the stadium over the course of a game.

I have no problem with stadiums enforcing the code of conduct on people using profanity, extremely offensive or racial comments. I have no problem with players pointing out people who are doing such things.

I think most American sports watching crowds should attempt to be as family friendly as possible. If you want to grow the game, have as many kids get to go to and enjoy the game. An environment of constant cursing, swearing, and use of offensive language, is no place for children and it's not an environment that any team wants for their team in their home.
