Coming into the season, expectations were relatively tempered for a middling Bruins team that made few offseason acquistions. See below from CBS Sports:
The smart money has to be on the Bruins doing enough to be in the Atlantic Division playoff picture, but that's probably the extent of reasonable expectations. Nothing more than another shot at sneaking in as a wild card.
https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/2017-18-team-by-team-nhl-season-outlook-previewing-the-boston-bruins/ (https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/2017-18-team-by-team-nhl-season-outlook-previewing-the-boston-bruins/)
But they have really come on of late recording at least 1 point in 16 straight games (12-0-4) and are 2nd in the East behind only Tampa Bay. Rask and the defense have been great ranking #1 in the NHL while Marchand, Bergeron, and Pastrnak have been leading a strong scoring offense.
I know this is a Cs blog and hockey is a clear #4 - as evidenced by the fact that there is only now a season thread for the Bruins - but I thought they deserved their due. What are your thoughts? Do the Bruins actually have a chance to compete for the Stanley Cup this year or is this just a nice run?
-
Nice OT win in Calgary on the Marchand break away. At least I think it's called that. I'm not much of a hockey person
-
Bruins definitely have looked fantastic this season. Have defied my earlier expectations.
Am I crazy to think this team can make a legit, DEEP playoff run? :o
I think some youth/inexperience might hurt us, BUT we also have a good mix of veterans as well. As long as Rask does extremely well, we have a chance.
-
Currently have the fewest losses in all of the NHL (not including OTLs since teams still receive a point for those). They have also played the least amount of games out of the top teams and are legitimately in contention for the best record/most point in the league.
As always, the playoffs are a different story - especially in the NHL - but if Rask can continue to play as well as he has, they may actually have a real chance. That's crazy!

Not crazy. They're clearly a top team and will be expected to win a series or two. This trade deadline might be the time to actually pick up a player, versus some borderline guy they've acquired at the deadline in the past.
-
I'm shocked at how the season has turned (for the good) for the Bruins. My expectation for this team, at the beginning of the season, was the same as that of CBS Sports, so for this team to be in the mix for the most points is crazy. They’ve really jelled, and I'm expecting them to go pretty deep in the playoffs.
-
They may not have the most points in the league but they are definitely the bedt team in the league in my opinion. They might have the league MVP and the league's best goalie.
-
Does the Bruin's recent success imply there was an issue with Claude Julien or that they had tuned him out?
-
Bergeron out at least 2 weeks with a broken foot, now McAvoy out for at least 4 weeks. The Bruins have fared much better than expected this season, so in one sense any outcome is gravy, but it would stink to see their season suddenly sabotaged by injuries.

Also, Rask is out today with... god knows what. This has the potential to come undone really fast.
This isn't gravy, though. They brought in some people, so they're going for it this year.
-
The question is whether Bergeron and Mcavoy will be ready to contribute when they come back. Both should be back for the playoffs. The Bruins should be the 2nd/3rd seed in the East, similar to the Celtics. If they can continue to play .500 hockey, they should get at least one home ice series.
I'm more concerned about our players reaching their potential in the playoffs than injuries. The Bruins have had inconsistent playoff performances by many of their top players. I think this is something Cassidy should be focusing on.
-
As a Tampa fan...can't say all of this news hurts my feelings. Certainly didn't want to have to face Toronto and Boston in the playoffs. Making those two play each other is better. Figure Boston still beats the Leafs in 5 or 6.
But really...anyone but the Pens.

This is a good point. So if their season suddenly goes south, it will be even worse than I thought. :(
-
Sucks that the injury to Bergeron might cost him MVP.
-
I don't really watch hockey (or baseball), but go Boston Sports teams!!! 8)
-
No need to panic. The team has been playing quite well, and Nash has fit in very well.
-
Bruins are going to win the cup this season....book it
They have a roster built to win the cup
-

Bergeron had zero chance to win the MVP regardless. There has never been an MVP winner in recent history that has ranked so low in points. Kucherov is getting this one, and it's not going to be close.
-
Sloppy defensive game tonight, but Marchand made sure they got two points. Hat trick.
-
Brad Marchand lives for OT. Clutch.
-
Brad Marchand lives for OT. Clutch.
That makes 5 overtime winners this season, which is awesome. Great to Bergeron back as well and getting a couple of assists, and great to see Pasternak reach 30 goals.
-
The game before against the Stars where Pastrnak scored the game winner with just 11 seconds left was pretty awesome too. This team loves coming back in third periods and put up 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd that night to win 3-2.
They simply are the best team in hockey
-
Tough, gritty team. Just the way I want my Bruins!

I love the line of Marchand-Bergeron-Pasternak, which may be the best in the NHL.
-
The Bruins can take over first in the East tonight. They're up 2-0 on the first place Lightning heading into the 2nd period.
-
I don't watch hockey and all but I hear they were doing a choke job and are now going to face the Maple Leafs in the playoffs? And everyone is fearful of the Leafs. ???
But go Bruins!! ;D

The Bruins did struggle a little bit down the home stretch, but still ended up a strong No. 2 seed. And though the Leafs won the season series 3-1, the Bruins should beat them in a playoff series.

Eh. The Bs played spectacular hockey to catch Tampa in the last week, before falling back to the second seed. They lost to a decent Florida team; it was a rough game, but I wouldn’t call it a choke job.
I’m quite proud of the way they’ve played despite being decimated by injuries.

Yeah, it sucks that they lost last night since I really, really wanted them to play an "easier" Devils team than Maple Leafs in the 1st round.
That said, they've been dealing with injuries for a bit and the schedule overall has been rough for them the past 3 or so weeks.
And I'm at least encouraged they played exceptionally in the 3rd period. Of course, I'm upset they couldn't replicate that earlier in the game, but at least it shows they are capable of turning it on still. Unfortunately they just blew so many close chances in the 3rd (like Pastrnak's tip being just an inch away from the net and Krejci also missing a deflection on net). If one of those bounces our way it could have been a different outcome. Oh well.
I still think we beat TOR in 6 games but we'll have to play better than we have recently. Should be a physical series so I also hope we can stay relatively healthy throughout.
I'm also glad that Game 2 is on NBC, since my TV package is basic and doesn't carry NESN and NBCSN lol (so I could watch on TV instead of having to watch online streams).
-
Game 1 tonight! ;D
And boy, Philly got blasted yesterday. 7-0 loss to PIT :o
-
Nice start for the Bruins tonight in what is probably going to be a hard fought series.
-
Great game. They finally did something against Anderson.
Wondering if the league is going to take a look at that Kadri hit. That was really dirty.

Awesome start to the series! Love seeing them thump the tar out of Toronto. And there will definitely be a suspension for that hit.

After the game suspension they gave Doughty I figure Kadri has to get 3 games. It was so more egregious and obvious in his intent to injure.

My initial thought was 2 games, but 3 wouldn't surprise me—it was pretty dangerous.
-
That was a brutal hit that could have paralyzed that player or worse. I would expect 3 games at the very least. How that player could defend that hit is beyond me.
-
Looks like I got it right. 3 game suspension for Kadri, the Leafs third leading goal scorer. This is huge.

The Bruins are raking up the Leafs, just in time for spring ...
I know, that was bad. ;D
But it's great to see them absolutely destroying Toronto.
-
And here I thought the Leafs were going to be threat to Boston.
Let's get the W Bruins!
-
Toronto has had no answer for the B's intensity so far. Hope they can sustain this in Toronto.
-
Wow what an utter destruction by the Bruins. Their first line is unstoppable. Pastrnak with the hat trick and 3 assists
-
Refs swallowing the whistles tonight
-
I think Toronto is better than what the box score showed in games 1 and 2. They are gritty and have some players. Auston Matthews is already a top player.

Well, of course they are better than they showed in games 1 & 2, and it proved true tonight. But also, the Bruins clearly were the less aggressive team tonight, as tends to happen when you go up 2-0 in a series after outscoring the other team 12-4.
Game 4 will be telling.

I agree. If Boston wins Game 4, they probably finish it off in Game 5; if Toronto wins Game 4, things get interesting.

If Toronto wins Game 4 then momentum swings to their side. They'd have the slight advantage in controlling the series, although the TD Garden environment will def be rocking for Game 5.
-
Huge win by Bruins without Bergeron. Rusk was awesome!
-
No Bergeron, No Problem! BRUINS WIN!!! ;D
Tukka Rask was SENSATIONAL tonight. Best player on the ice and kept us in it until we broke the tie late in the 2nd period.
Now hopefully Bergeron's injury isn't too serious and we get him back for Game 5.
Lets end it and send Toronto packing on Saturday night! 8)

Yep I usually HATE watching live playoff games on the road, but I decided to just watch and that 2nd period was helluva stressful but luckily they weathered the storm and played smart in the 3rd period to milk the clock and ensure the win! ;D
Honestly wasn't looking good in the 2nd and the energy in the building was intense, but Rask was MVP tonight.
-
Boston Bruins are also in the playoffs, and they're up 3-1 in the first round. I don't watch much hockey, but like to tune in during the playoffs. They seem to have had a good season, so let's hope they can go all the way this year.
Anyone else watching?

I also turned on the game last night and loved what I saw even without one of their main stars playing. Rask is incredible in the net, that coupled with their offense is a great combination to have a chance at winning another cup. Of course, if Bruins and Celtics are on the same night, we all know what I will be watching.

I've been following. The offense is awesome, and so is Rask. They have a legit shot at the Cup this season.
-
I'm really hoping the Bruins can wrap this up tonight, especially with Tampa Bay winning their series today.

Come on bruins

Come on bruins
I only just tuned in for the 3rd period, but, geez, the Bruins are totally dominating the Leafs; Tuuka must have been REALLY bad. Only a few minutes left - sure would be nice to push this one to OT.
Edit: Oh well - let's hope for the best on Monday.

I didn't feel like Rask was really playing badly at all. He wasn't playing great, but none of the goals Toronto scored were necessarily his fault either.
The goaltender change felt like it was more intended to send a message to the team than anything. Boston had been playing pretty lifeless up to that point except for a few flurries here or there. They had a lot of mental mistakes that led to Toronto's four goals.
Hopefully the Bruins come with the same type of intensity in game 6 they did in games 1, 2, 4, and the latter parts of this game. When they play hard they're very difficult to beat. They're not the type of team that can cruise, and play it safe while waiting for quick strike opportunities.
-
There's a decent amount of parity at the top of the NHL. Nashville, TB, BOS, WASH, PITT, Winnipeg, and Vegas all could win it. Not like the NBA...

Hockey is very different than basketball, in that in basketball one superstar can tilt a series whereas in hockey that isn't really the case (except for a really hot goalie). Hockey is very much the epitome of a team sport.

Bruins been quiet

They do all that and yet can't score and take the lead, while TOR just comes into Boston's end and scores.. smh.

This is an awful time for Rask to go cold.

Yeah, meanwhile Andersen for TOR has been insane lately.
-
I hope the Bruins do not become the next victim of a blown 3-1 series lead meme.
-
Btw, does anybody else think that the new format (started last year?) for the NHL playoffs is totally asinine? So, the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the conference are currently playing each other in the 1st round and the winner of this series goes on to play the BEST team in the conference in the Eastern Semis?
I get it, the winner of each division plays the two wildcards with 2nd and 3rd in each division playing each other, but they seem to be relying too heavily on forcing division matchups rather than using overall records. This being the solution to whatever problem there was previously seems a little ridiculous.
-

To be fair, I don't think anyone's forgotten them blowing that 3-0 lead to PHI in 2010... :(

YES. You're spot on. It's stupid, and everyone knows it.
I mean, Winnipeg vs. Nashville in the 2nd round?? HUH!? That should be the conference finals SMH.

Yes, its absolutely moronic.
Nothing else to say, but its the NHL and moronic is normal for them.
-
Ugh. Thanks, Bruins.
-
Stupid game plan tonight. The leads whiffed on about 4 long passes behind the d because the Bruins defensemen continue to pinch. And it's not like they're scoring.
-
So I guess tonight was the season, huh. :'(
-
So I guess tonight was the season, huh. :'(
There's still Game 7, in Boston, but I'm not too confident at this point.
-
This series honestly feels real similar to 2013. Bruins start off real well, go up 2-0, then 3-1, but then fail to win the series at home in Game 5. Then lose Game 6 @TOR in rather ordinary fashion.
Hopefully the Game 7 result is the same, although I'd prefer there's a lot less drama and it's a comfortable B's win! :P
That said, B's have to play a full 60 minutes, Rask has to stay solid, the offense needs to keep generating chances, and they need to play physical. Don't let TOR dominate for large stretches.

Yeah, it really shouldn't have come down to a Game 7 again.
Also, my biggest fear is the B's start the game off slow and let TOR dominate. That would probably mean we're done. Really no excuses for the B's tonight.
And that first line of Pasta-Bergeron-Marchand HAS to produce. In our 3 wins, they've combined for 22 points. 3 losses.. 0 points. Coincidence? Nope.
-
Crazy game so far! 5 goals in first and 3-2 Bruins after one- - watch this one if you can!!

Insane 1st period. Was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

The Bruins are really playing with fire. If they choke away this series, they're gonna have some 'splainin' to do.

Hold the lead, boys!

Hockey ranks fourth for me of the four majors, but playoff hockey is the most exciting thing in sports.

Incredible 3rd- hell of a time to play like that in game 7, down a goal in final!!

WHAT A WIN!!! Almost had a heart attack, but I made it!
Exceptional 3rd period by the Bruins! I had my doubts to be honest, especially after that sluggish 2nd period (Especially by the defense), but they've proven all season long that when the going gets tough, they grind it out.
TD Garden was ELECTRIC tonight! ;D

I’m sure the NHL doesn’t care because PIT-WAS will be watched by a lot.

Ridiculous. At least TB can be glad they faced a wild card in the first round, whereas Boston had to play one of the top teams.

Just absolutely stupid. But I have come to expect that from the NHL. The NHL product of hockey is unbelievably good but the League's Front office has been horrid for decades. This type of playoff format is about the dumbest I have seen since pre playoff college football. The 5 billion different AllStar formats they have had is embarrassing for a top 5 sport in America.

I will give them credit for the 3-on-3 overtime format, which I find exciting.

The Bruins closed out this series.
Time for the Celtics to follow suit tomorrow!

Weird how similar this series was to the Bruins-Leafs series of 2013.

Quite bummed that a busy night at work kept me from being able to watch game 7, but I'm very happy they pulled out the win.
I was periodically checking the scores on my computer when I had a chance, and was a little worried when I saw the score at the end of the 2nd period. One of my co-workers was convinced they were done. That must have been a heck of a 3rd period.

Good job bruins

Tom Brady was in the house. That's why they made the comeback and won.

Weird how similar this series was to the Bruins-Leafs series of 2013.
My Toronto friend and I were trolling one another throughout both series.
After the Leafs' collapse in the last couple minutes in 2013 I sent him 5 emails. The first titled "E," the second "K", then "O", "H", and "C". So in his inbox it read:
C
H
O
K
E
He loved it.
Tonight I dropped the hammer at the end via text. It's nice getting the last laugh.

Good start for the Bruins so far. Rask looks a bit more composed and confident, and the defense has so far avoided any costly mistakes.
Tampa Bay sure is a lot stronger in the neutral zone and on the fore check than Toronto, that much is obvious. The margin for error is going to be much smaller against the Lightning. Boston will need to avoid sloppy passes coming out of their own defensive zone.
Overall, these teams appear pretty evenly matched. I think is going to be a good series. A bit unfortunate it's in the 2nd round, though, due to the NHL's stupid playoff structure.
-
That should have 4 on 4...Miller took the Dive on the so called trip...Refs missed a blatant cross check by the licker on Point...
Maintain that the only way Boston wins this series is if they play with a man advantage.

There was no dive on that tripping penalty. The TB player simply took his legs out from under Miller as he was changing direction.
Marchand did clearly get away with a cross-check though.
-
Way to earn that goal back! That was a blistering shot by Nash.
-
Refs suck this game.

Uh, maybe they should just ban those skates. That is stupid.
Hope this doesn't get in Rask's head, though. He's been having a really good game otherwise.
-
The Bruins top line is just sooooo good.
-
Loved what I saw going into Tampa and sucking the energy right out of them. Rask looked sharp and that first line is unstoppable. Great to see our 21 year old with 6 goals in 8 playoff games and super tough make up.
Good appetizer to the big game in two hours!
-
Bs match up with Tampa way better than they matched up with Toronto. I could see the Bs taking this in 5.
-
I thought the Bruins would lose Game 1, maybe sneak a win in Game 2; I did NOT see them thrashing the Lightning in Game 1. What an impressive win.
-
Nice win by the B's today!! Complete effort, and Rask was splendid too.
I will say though, that Tampa crowd/environment is NOTHING compared to Toronto's. Even when TB scored and had chances, that crowd felt relatively "silent" lol. There were a lot of B's fans there too though.
I predicted Bruins in 6 before the series, and still think so. I feel confident we take our home games @TD Garden, and getting the Game 1 win at TB is huge. Basically, home ice is ours again.
-
Hopefully the B's feed off the Garden energy tonight and start off fast and up-tempo.
The refs were AWFUL in Game 2 and practically gift wrapped a goal for TB and pretty much took one golden chance of a goal away from BOS (Marchand was clearly slashed on that sequence). Yet the B's still were in it for much of the game on the road.
B's just have to start off well and CAN'T play as sluggish as they did Monday night. Tampa practically dominated much of the 1st period. B's need to do the same tonight and hopefully capitalize on their chances.
I'm still really confident B's take this series in 6, but they got to protect home ice IMHO.
LETS GO B'S!!! ;D 8)
-
Tampa is smoking us since game 2. 1st period they were moving like lightning and us like the tortoise. They are going to need to figure out something and fast.

Agreed.
-
A little better slowing them down in second but still nothing materializng for us in offense. Some dumb penalties not helping. It is possible toncomeback in 3rd but it will take a desperate feeling by our top line- Hopeful something crazy happens.
-
The refs yet again have been extremely horrible for us...
But yeah the B's have to play with more urgency. It's insane how they go for long stretches without shooting the puck on net. In that 2nd period, did they even shoot the puck in the final 10 minutes? Besides Grzelcyk in the final minute, I don't think so. Not going to cut it.
Rask is literally the only reason we aren't down like 6-1 right now to be honest.
-
We look so overmatched last two games- dissappointing- without stellar rask, we stand no chance
-
Man that was an ugly loss, and at home too.. :'(
B's better show up Game 4, otherwise I don't see them winning this series if they drop that game too. B's also need to start shooting the puck on net more. Way too much passing and slick moves which Tampa snuffs out, and lets be real, you aren't scoring if you aren't shooting on net that often.

Boston has been playing poorly for a while now, with few flashes here and there of getting back on track. They almost chocked on the first round, and now they're getting bum-rush.

First line is key. When they do well, the team does well. It seems like they have been trying way too much lately. Pasta passes or makes slick moves in moments where he should shoot, and then when he needs to make the extra pass, he just throws a low-quality shot right at the goalie. As for Marchand, I love him, but it feels like all he's been doing the last few games is falling to the ice and just going into the offensive zone and then losing it. Real frustrating.

Let's not go overboard. They've traded away wins with the best team in the Eastern Conference. If they win their next game, the series is back to normal.
-
The last two games sure have been a couple of stinkers but I think we'll see a lot better performance next game. The Bruins always seem to play better when their backs are against the wall.

Yeah, they’ve held serve with the #1 seed. There’s no need to panic.

They are getting exposed by beating the #3 seed in the conference and are so far holding serve against the #1 seed in the conference. They had 2 bad games. That hapoens even in the playoffs with good teams. Lord knows the 2008 Celtics played some stinkers during that playoff run to the title.
I think it sucks that as a #2 seed they are getting screwed over by this idiotic playoff seeding by having to beat the #3 and #1 seed just to make it to the conference final. What bozo dreamt upped that stupid playoff seeding? Just moronic.

Totally agree, especially about the playoff format. The #2 seed shouldn't have to face a #3 until the second round, and shouldn't have to face a #1 until the conference finals.
-
Bruins started game 4 the way Celtics last night down 2-0. We stormed back to 3-2 and then horrible non call take down which leads to Tampa tying- garbage officiating strikes again.
OT——should be exciting- hope we pull this out
-
This could be our season right here... unless of course if we score in OT.

Not sure my liver can take this! 🍷🍷

Ugh—-we started great but then boom- tip in and we are toast..
-
That's really too bad. A 2-2 series is much different than being down 3-1. This series should have taken place next round anyway...bummer :-\
-
Ugh.....
-
Very disappointing. After Boston stole Game 1, I never could've guessed that they'd lose 3 in a row, including two at home.
They had a better regular season than I expected, and the horrible playoff draw isn't their fault, but they've really crapped the bed the last three games, and I think their season is all over but the crying.
-
That's the season. Can't defend home-court two games and that's how brutal things will get.
Have a bad feeling about the Celtics' game tomorrow too...

Like the Celtics, the Bruins have had several amazing comebacks this season, but winning three in a row—including two in Tampa—against his Lightning team is nigh impossible. They missed their chance(s).

I don't know much about hockey but I was told the 3rd goal by Stamkos shouldn't have counted because McAvoy got "fouled" behind the net and the refs ignored it. Is that correct?
-

Yes, it should've been a penalty. The Tampa player pulled McAvoy's arm, which is illegal and was the action that caused McAvoy to turn over the puck.
I will say that despite Boston blowing some opportunities this series, the officials have screwed them quite a bit. In Game 3, I think, the Bs were called for a slash when the Bruins player's stick actually hit the Tampa players thigh and not his hand, but then Tampa slashed Marchand on a breakaway, which should've been a penalty shot, and it wasn't called.
-
What's with the licking and cupping your stick up an opponent's crotch?
Some seriously juvenile dink moves.
-
I guess even in this dismal situation, we really need to just win the next game and get it back to Boston and then just win that game and let game 7 crazy happen😁Optimism for a second but not impossible/ Rask will need to find his big balls though as he will need to go on a goalie tear and our team needs to stop with the bad turnovers- Big hits are needed to slow them down but unfortunately we will spend our time in the box if we sneeze in wrong direction- Tampa is not Montreal so there is that 😁 Here is to turning impossible to improbable to possible again...
-

Yeah, I don't like that. Marchand's a great player, but he needs to leave that stuff home.
-
Yeah, season's over. No way the B's are winning the next 3 with 2 games @Tampa.
And frankly, TB has just been straight up dominating us for most of the last three games. Even during our good stretches where we generate opportunities, TB's defense looks so disciplined and snuffs out most of the chances with blocked shots or poke checks, which is annoying because all our forwards go in one-on-one and lose the puck as they enter the zone more often than not smh.
Meanwhile, our defense right now looks toast ESPECIALLY with Krug now out, and they turn it over way too much leading to easy Lightning goals...
Anyways, it's insane to think the Celtics could go on a deeper run than the Bruins in this year's playoffs... :o

Don't forget the Pastrnak double minor he got when the Tampa player hit himself in the face with his own stick
-
Ugh, horrible ending.
But proud of this group nonetheless! Future is definitely bright for the Bruins (and Celtics)!!! 8)
Idk what happened... we were so good in Game 1, but then got pretty much outplayed the rest of the series. Yes, the refs were frustrating and probably cost us Game 2, but even at home (Games 3-4) the Bruins were dominated on almost all facets of the game (5 on 5).
I do think they need to improve the defense a bit. I love Chara and thank him for all he's done, but I thought giving him the 1 year extension was a bit ridiculous. Sure, he's a great veteran presence, but it felt like all postseason whenever he touched the puck, it either led to a turnover, he couldn't clear the zone at all, OR got beat by a Tampa or Toronto player who was just way faster (and younger).
I'm not blaming Rask. Defense in front of him was relatively garbage and he can only do so much when it seems like the defense turns it over RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM like 3-4 times a game... :(
We are a young group though and should continue growing. I just wish the other lines besides the first line contributed more on the scoring end of things.
-
After the way game 1 went I never would have figured they'd go into such a terrible funk on offense for the rest of the series. It was like they couldn't get out of their own way sometimes.
Tampa Bay isn't even really that special of a defensive team. That's the most frustrating part about it.

Unfortunately it kind of reminded me of the Ottawa series last year.
Ottawa takes a lead and then just clamps down in the neutral zone to prevent the Bruins from entering the offensive zone too much and generating chances. And it worked. Like it did for Tampa this series as well... :(
Both OTT (last year) and TB were disciplined in that regard.
Also that last PP by the Bruins was just pathetic. They let one TB player (Callahan) just carry the puck into their own zone and keep it there for like 30 seconds. Embarassing.

Yeah, that was one thing I noticed even in game 1 (I think I even mentioned earlier in the thread). TB definitely is a solid neutral zone team, even if not a great defensive zone team.
-
Pretty terrible end to what was (for me) a surprisingly successful season.
-
Down with a whimper
-
Terrible ending to a great year. We needed Rask to be dominant and he was only okay. The turnovers in the neutral zone, the quick goals given up after we scored a goal, as I said only mediocre goaltending, Charra showing his age, nothing offensively from any of the lines besides the first line and, at times, some pretty awful officiating all meant for a exit to the conference's number one seed in the conference semis even though Boston was a #2 seed.
Oh well. Still excited about next year.
-
The first half of the game gave me cautious optimism but penalties and that inadvertant trip by our leader was to much to overcome. Rask was good today but we needed unreal to have a true chance. It appears we were outcoached and outskated for the past 4 games-
Tampa is super tough and most likely going to the Finals. Thankfully we have Celtics tomorrow to take our mind off the end of this season.
-
It does make a bit more disappointed that we were that bad in the final regular season game vs. FLA.
Win that game, and we play an easy New Jersey team before and likely win it in 5 games.
Instead, we were taken to the brink by a gusty Toronto team (Game 7) and it seems we used up all our energy, momentum and emotions on that series and Game 7.
As a result, we looked mediocre the last 3-4 games and just looked tired the last two games. Sad.
But still a fantastic season IMO and the youth movement is in full effect! 8)
-
Dang, Golden Knights won Game 1 and now they find themselves down in a 3-1 hole. Perhaps Capitals will finally win their first cup.

I'm no Caps fan, but I'd rather have them win than a first-year hot-weather team.
-
Capitals win their first Stanley Cup championship in Las Vegas!
Too bad, I wanted the Golden Knights to win. Since they are closest to Los Angeles lol.
-
Good sports day.
-
Bad turnover aside, the Bruins are killing it this period.
