Looks like our only threat is Davis staying put. Another team apart from the Celtics isn't even expected to make a bid

https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/05/16/danny-ainge-staying-put-as-celtics-face-big-decisions/

New Orleans is also waiting on a meeting with Anthony Davis, and Pelicans sources say that discussion is expected to take place within the next week. David Griffin, who took over the team’s basketball operations last month, is planning to pitch Davis on staying put after a season that saw AD ask for a trade and say that, if that request wasn’t accommodated, he would opt out and leave as an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

There have been reports that Davis hasn’t moved from that stance, and if such is the case, sources here told the Herald the Pelicans will reach out to the Celtics as the most obvious trade partner. The Celts may still not be sure about a deal because it’s not known yet what the Pels will want in return for the All-Star, but there seems to be a belief that they’d be able to work things out.

It’s also within the realm of possibility that another team could jump into the picture, but it’s hard to see the Lakers as one of those teams. New Orleans sources said the team “won’t be doing business” with the Lakers, with the bitterness from the Lakers’ attempt to engineer a Davis deal during the season still seething within the Pelicans’ organization.

Sources here at NBA draft combine in Chicago saying Celts are still most attractive trade partner for New Orleans if Pelicans can't convince Anthony Davis to stay.

there were reports that Ainge is trying to get Davis regardless of what kyrie does

If kyrie leaves does that open cap space for us?

Not in the sense that we would be able to sign anyone of importance. We would still be over the projected $109 million cap. (Horford + Hayward + Davis alone would be around $90 million)

someone noted that  (if also Horford opts out)...Celts could only work with 22-24 million per season deal

Middleton and Kemba are priced out

Could go after Brogdon

or worst case Lopez?

AD
Lopez

upfront could be a nightmare for teams to handle

Replacing Kyrie and Horford with Lopez would indeed be a nightmare.

Last season didn't you prefer to keep Tatum over Brown if it came down to it?

People have mentioned it a lot in sports talk shows today and I found it interesting. In many star player trades, the goal is usually to send the player to a team that's away from your division/conference. So the Pelicans might want to try send AD to the East (the other conference). That could give us a bit of an edge over Western teams who are interested in him simply because UNLESS a team like LAL offers a MONSTER package, then if the trade offers are fairly close in value then the Pelicans may decide to send him East.

In the NFL, Bill Belichick did this with Garoppolo when he sent Jimmy G. to the other conference (NFC) & many thought the return was underwhelming. Even with Kawhi, Pop sent him to the Raptors for a return some thought wasn't as great as what other teams could have offered/did offer, but this move meant Pop and the Spurs didn't face Kawhi in many big games (like the playoffs).

So with that said, it gives teams like the Knicks, Bulls (his hometown team), Celtics and probably even a team like the Sixers (if they enter the bidding war) an edge over teams in the West like the Clippers, Lakers, etc.

Of course though, in our instance the rental status of AD is still an obstacle to look at as well as what Kyrie decides in FA.

We’re not keeping Tatum in any trade for Davis.

This is great stuff! I hope it’s true.

While Kyrie may Or May not stay (I hope he does!), you don’t turn down an opportunity to land AD!
