This draft was supposed to be deep and full of potential all stars.

Marcus Smart was supposed to be NBA ready and he definitely has personality traits of a winner.   But at #6 in this draft you expect a guy to show more.   I think he has shown far less than KO, Sully, Tony Allen, D west, Rondo, Gomes etc.   He may be the worst first round pick summer league performer of Ainge era.  He is looking worse than Phil Pressey did last year and he was undrafted in a terribly weak draft.

20% shooting is just horrible.  It is easily the worst of any first round picks in Orlando.  What is worse is that he is not only a terrible 3 point shooter and a terrible pull up shooter.   His percentages on drives to basket is god awful.

Rondo can't shoot but he can get to rim at will and overall has a 50% FG% because he gets layups.  Rose and Westbrook - less playmakers than scorers - are terrible outside shooters but like Rondo that can get to rim at will and unlike Rondo have a second gear that lets them finish over bigs.  Smart does neither at this point.   And he is playing against teams that actually have no rim protecting bigs and no legit NBA guards to stop him.

He may go down as the worst pick of the draft if this keeps up.

Good thing you don't get paid for your scouting dude.... how can you make that assessment off 3 summer league games?   Get real.

Back in the day you could give or take away TPs.  People who made unpopular posts often wound up with negative numbers, which is why they got rid of it.  So you'll only see it on a few really old accounts and Roy Hobbs.

Marcus will be fine.

I trust Danny with the pick, and I also trust that Marcus will bring a level of Lance Stephenson-like toughness to this team.

We just got better with our perimeter defense.

It's funny how little so many fans care about defense to me.  It's like they can't even see it happening or understand it's half the game.

Sad but funny.

I'm not high on Smart either, but in defense of his summerleague performance... I remember Sully stinking it up as well.  And it seems the Celtics might be a team that has their players work on their weaknesses during Summerleague play.  I haven't watched many of the games, but I hear he isn't penetrating much... which supposedly is something he's pretty good at.   If he's missing shots, it's understandable, because he's a bad shooter.

Should be a solid defender off the bench, though.  He's top 5 in steals so far.

Yeah, how the heck do you get negative Tommy Points (unless you're Roy)?

A lot of players just aren't good in summer league.  Like previously mentioned, I think MCW shot sub 30% FG and had tons of turnovers.  It just doesn't really matter.

I just try to take bits and pieces of what I see from their game (like yes, Smart's shot selection is poor but he also plays great defense, gets steals without gambling, etc).

Well, everyone give him a TP, like I did.

He shouldn't be negative - I thought we did away with that.

Just hit the "giveth" button....get him (or Her) to 0, then go from there. :)

So do you think we should try to cut him after summer league, or try to dump his salary on someone before the season starts?

That's an overreaction. We should at least hold on to him because he could be a useful throw-in to make salaries match in a bigger deal.

I'll reserve judgment, but I will appreciate your comments/opinions. I don't know why people are so negative towards what you wrote. There is a chance Smart could be a bust. I do agree Smart may not ever be anywhere near D. Wade Lite 2.0 at all. But I'm at least hoping that he proves me otherwise.

I want to at least wait 3-4 years.
