I haven't looked at draft stuff at all.

All I will say is I hope Danny drafts somebody who was highly productive in college and who projects as an impact player right away.

Tired of raw prospects who might do something a few years down the line.  This team needs productive supporting players to bolster Jay and Jay now, not a few years from now.

You never know how long we will have Jay and Jay playing together like this.  Have to take advantage of it.

I suspect #14 will be a higher ceiling "project pick". The later 1st round or a trade into the early 2nd should have some nice options for more NBA ready players. Tillman, Azubuike, Bane, Riller, or Tillie

I've seen you bring up Tillman a few times and I've liked him too, but didn't he go back to school?

That was a false rumor (Dickie V). He is definitely in the draft. Someone reported he got a first round promise, but I did not see the source.

Yeah Dickie V blew that one, if Tillman has a promise I hope its with Celtics at #26

Good to know. He's the one big I would be interested in that is projected from 16-60.

I'm leaning towards adding another J to the team.

Jalen Smith

He had a disappointing freshman year but bounce back well. C's need a big that has offense potential and is still athletic enough with size for modern NBA. A guy to develop incase we don't resign Theis in 2021.

At 14?
Yes at 14. If Toppin can go top ten Smith can go 14. Everyone has him in the 20's but they are off. He should go top 18.

Toppin and Smith both really worry me on defense. Both will take a lot of scheming for BS to hide. Toppin is worse then Smith but both lack the perimeter mobility to switch onto smaller players and neither player has the size to be a drop rim protector.

Looking at the teams in the playoffs the bigs who are going to get consistent minutes are either

Legit BIGS (6'11+ 250+ with + length)

Brook and Robin Lopez
Vucevic
Gasol
Embiid
Turner
Mcgee and Howard
Nurkic and Whiteside
Zubac
KP
Jokic and Plumlee
Gobert
Adams
Allen

Or they are elite moving bigs who can jump out and defend smaller players in switches
Ibaka (getting slower but also has size to drop)
Horford
Theis
BAM
Harrell
Noel
Anthony Davis

It feels like defensive fit is often overlooked by draft fans. I think Obi will have a long NBA career but short of being an 8th or 9th man I don't think he ever has playoff success. He can be a 20ppg guy on a bad team I just don't see how a team wins with him on D. Smith is not as terrible on D but still will be exploited in match-ups and will have to shoot the lights out to warrant a role on a good team.

For the same reason I think Achiuwa, Tillman, Nnaji, and Tillie have higher ceilings as bigs who can move on the perimeter and that Azubuike could be a steal as a drop big in the 2nd round.

I feel Obi and Smith are better prospects because they are athletic with some length but also already feature some offense ability. I dont worry about their ability to bang in the paint as they still both manage good inside numbers and overall both are superior advance stats players across the board compared to the other bigs you mentioned. I dont want wishful thinking on guys that have more size or guys that are uber athletes but can't stretch the floor past 4 feet. I want a combination of features to make for a potential replacement for what Theis is. If you feel Theis is a great fit than Smith should be a guy you like at 14. I can accept getting a Theis like player locked up for 4 years at cheap money. Especially when you consider Theis and Kanter's contract situations.

Toppin isn't as big as people perceive at the Nike Academy he measured 6'8 (I assume without shoes) 218lbs with a 6'10.5" wingspan. Thats the same size as Tatum not an NBA center. On the perimeter Obi has high hips and struggles to get down to defend.

I don't see the Theis - Smith comp. They are similar height and length but Theis is probably 20lbs heavier and moves better laterally.
Multiple sites have Toppin at 6'9 with 7'4 wingspan going into this past year. Also if at PF or Center how often do you have to get down to defend? He is plenty athletic to recover so again not worried about his size or defense.

As for Theis' mobility he was viewed as not having lateral ability till he got a lot of playing time this year. I was a big pusher for Theis since his rookie year before he proved himself. Trust me Jalen Smith would be fine. There are plenty of moments when he is locked in on defense and performs. On the next level he should be engaged more often.

ESPN just came out with new Mock Draft.

Had us taking Hampton at 14.  Nesmith (11), Williams (12) and Vassell (13) off the board.

This is how they describe Hampton pick:

"With Kemba Walker at age 30 and a lack of depth behind him at guard, the Celtics could look at adding some backcourt talent, which is considered the strength of this draft class. Hampton is one of the best athletes in this draft and has significant upside to grow into long-term."

This is my theory as to why we should draft Kira Lewis, who they have being taken at 20 by the Heat.

Had us taking Robert Woodard at 26. Reason:

At 6-7, 230 pounds with a 7-1 wingspan, huge hands and a greatly improved shooting stroke, Woodard could give Brad Stevens additional depth at the combo forward spot. Woodard's weaknesses as a shot-creator would be mitigated on a Celtics team that is flush with ballhandling, allowing him to lock into a role as a 3-and-D forward.

And taking Udoka at 30.  Reason:

When Al Horford walked, the Celtics experimented by turning to undersized Daniel Theis to start at center. Danny Ainge might look to add a different dimension to the frontcourt in Azubuike, a unique physical presence with at 270 pounds with a 7-foot-8 wingspan and 9-foot-4 standing reach.

ESPN has the most intel of all the draft boards, as it run by the guys who used to run Draft Express, Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz.  So while not set in stone, I give credence to their views.

If Woodard is a poor man's Patrick Williams I might warm up to this draft scenario.  I do want two bigs and one PG.  So it checks that box.  Hampton I've warmed up to since remembering he doesn't have an Australian accent... ;D   Nothing against Australians, just have an Exum redux fear.

Hampton being still pretty green would kind of fit snugly into C's development process...plenty of time to learn from Kemba...then come in and slowly start to wow us...and he's big enough he can play next to Kemba, which is a plus for sure.

Hampton just a slight gamble...but probably worth it.

Hahaha, Baynes is the Aussie, Adams is the Kiwi! I didn’t mind what I saw from Hampton in our local league. Obviously a bit weaker than the fully grown men, but he looked alright. Similar struggles to Ball in shooting efficiency.

I’m still not sold as Hampton being better than Kira Lewis, but whoever we pick I’ll cheer on. Funnily enough there’s a 6’5 guard who played at Arizona who is from Australia - mocked to go around 20 or so.

If I was taking a boom or bust pick at 14 I'd take Jaden McDaniels. He has serious upside but wasn't very efficient. It would be interesting see him developed.

Woodyard looks to me like your classic Gary Clark, James Ennis, Wilson Chandler type of player.

I doubt he will be available at 14.  Just too much upside to pass up.  Someone like Cole Anthony will drop instead.

The top 12 I have (in no order)

Edwards
Wiseman
Toppin
Vassell
Haliburton
Hayes
Okongwu
Avdija
Ball
Okoro
Patrick Williams
Jaden Mcdaniels

I don't see it with McDaniels. I'd need to do more research into his film outside of playing for Washington, but I don't think he can play in the NBA. I don't see the upside. I see a guy who has a ton of bad habits, question marks about his body, and I've heard some question marks about his character.

Check out the highlight film below

how many players do you know that is 6'9-6'10 with 7'0-7'1 wingspan that can do the things JM can do? His game is sort of Tatumesque (especially dribble stop and pop).  His jump shot has a high release.  And he is not afraid to drive/absorb contact for the finish.   He is a good re bounder considering that he is still has mass to tack on.  Also good passer and shot blocker.
